Hey guys and gals, do any of you live in or know of a good place to live in Colorado? Such as, low crime rate, mountains, mid-sized city?
Thanks!
Steamboat is a bit more sophisticated than Craig. That's good or bad depending on your perspective. If you can't put up with the tourists and aren't interested in skiing, Craig is your place. If you like to shop or ski, go with Steamboat.
A lot of people talk about moving to Colorado but they don't realize what it's like having the snow start in September and go on through May. If you're not used to it and/or aren't a skier it can be hard to deal with. The weather is a lot more of what most people are used to east of the Front Range than back in the interior.
And very expensive.
I lived in Colorado Springs for 22 years. It's too damned big now...just another Orange Country (CA) without the adjoining cities.
I'm partial to Golden, CO...there's this really nice brewery there.
Lite rail coming soon. That would bring you to downtown Denver for a low price and a quick trip. No parking worries either.
Lafayette. Just east of Boulder. Very nice and my cousin will sell you a nice new home he built for $287K.
Start out first in Leadville and see how you like it.
Now yer talkin!
"there's this really nice brewery there"
I live near Golden. Nice city and the brewery you meant was probably "Golden City brewery" on 12th street. "The second largest brewery in Golden." (expensive place to buy a house, though.)
Monument...commutable to either Denver or CS though it has grown tremendously over the last three years and the infrastructure hasn't caught up yet. Black Forest is my favorite, but I can't afford to live there!!
Thanks, everyone.
I want you all to know I am researching every city name being posted. You guys are a big help.
If anyone else knows of a nice place, post away!
Thanks
Grand Junction hands down is the best choice. Large enough to not drive you nuts, small enough to enjoy. Lots of space. Need more parameters to give further advice.
If you like oil, Rifle, CO is gorgeous this time of year. Mosquito pass is very nice in winter.
(I found your gas cap and sold it on e-bay)
;)
I loved Golden when I visited a few years back. I suspected that it would be a pricey place to live! Hey but I live in the NO Va. burbs and Golden CO beats this pricey place to live hands down.
Try East Tincup.
Grand Junction near the Utah border off of I-70. Short distance to red rock deserts and apsen, vail and telluride. About 4 to 5 hours from Denver. Has a local university, malls, and nice western feel. It also has a some of the most beautiful geological formations on the western slope. I had a friend who lived their and house backed up to the Colorado National Monument. On a 3 day weekend you can ski on lake mead or ski on the slopes of Aspen.
Another town I would love to move to is St. George, Utah. I drove through this city on a trip from Denver to Las Vegas a few years ago and fell in love with it. It is just north of the Arizona border on I-15. I hear it is thriving and growing town.
Colorado Springs is Conservative. Boulder is about the most Liberal town in Colorado.
Grand Junction is still a beautiful city. Has a more southwestern down home red state feel to.
Easier to say where to avoid
Inside Denver City limits and Aurora (with a few exceptions)
