Oh yeah... for all the people who want him to die.

Not my preference (which listed above) but death sentances often are carried out quicker in prison than on death row

Always look for the silver lining....

Being killed by the infidels would have made him a martyr under the rules of Islam.

There aren't "rules" under Islam. There are laws. It is a political-legal system shielded from criticism by religious overtones.

If being killed by infidel is so noble and they are slaves to peace, they would lay down their weapons and accept their deaths. They serve Islam in taking territory for Islam. The kufur are captured as slaves or killed as blaphemeres. It makes no difference in the end to them as we are sub-humans (e.g. Jews "are" the offspring of apes and pigs).

I've been mulling this over since 4:30- everytime I think I've accepted this sentence I feel a rage welling up. A couple of thoughts keep cropping up. The first is that September 11th did not have a profound effect on ALL Americans. The second- is that it is going to take a nuke or similar attack to bring these liberals to their senses.

My kneejerk reaction when listening to the mitigating circumstances: This is Oprah's fault.

With all the liberals and anti-death people, we may have to move to majority cast the deciding vote whether it be life in prison or the death sentence.

That might be the problem here. I wouldn't be suprised if there weren't a couple jurors who were against the death penalty no matter what. In which case, they would've lied on their jury questionnaires.

If you had your choice between a life sentence(say 40-50 years) in solitary confinement 23 hours a day, or 5 years on death row followed by execution, which would you pick?

I know which one I'd pick- i'd pick death, and it isn't close.

So Al Qaeda is being kind by murdering kidnapped hostages (i.e. non-combantant prisoners of war) in a few months rather than holding onto them for a decade or more?

I was wondering the same thing. (It happens on Law And Order, so it must be true, right?) Maybe a judge can over-ride and give leniency instead of death, but not in the other direction.

Not likely to happen at Supermax. The 1993 WTC bombers haven't been killed in prison yet. In fact they lived to see their work carried out.

No doubt. One of the checks and balances in our government.

I agree. It would be easy to lie about your opinion of agreeing with the death penalty. Once your on....NO DEATH. Their ideology won.

If being killed by infidel is so noble and they are slaves to peace, they would lay down their weapons and accept their deaths.

A muslim could reasonably consider that being killed by infidels as a direct result of actions he took to kill infidels, qualifies as the same as being killed in battle and thus merits martyrdom status

No, and one of the reasons can be found at Peach's post #572.

Exactly. It isn't just about individuals like Moussaui and Youssef. It's about the whole movement. Fanatics like them can continue to plan attacks and recruit followers from within prison. No bars can stop them.

Too many Americans have a naive understanding of prison life. They think the general population is just itching to kill the terrorists (or child molesters and other bad guys). That's fiction.

In real life, Moussaui can write letters, have visitors, arrange for payoffs, and do other things with the potential to create havoc.

Charlie Manson was spared the death penalty when it was overturned in California. From prison, he continued to inspire his fanatical followers. One of them, Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford. She escaped from prison in 1987. Although she was recaptured and is eligible for parole. She has never renounced Manson.

65. it's wonderful news! I was really shocked but happy to hear it. If he is sane, he wants to be a martyr--so don't give it to him. If he's insane, shouldn't get death penalty. He didn't kill anyone.

I think he would have said that either way. Anything to be in our face.

I agree. These Islamic jihadists are arrogant and determined of the rightness of their cause. I wish Americans were as certain about American being a beacon of freedom and hope for the world as these thugs are about their holy war.

Interesting enough. Hubby was on the train tonight and they had the reading of the verdict over the broadcast system.

First time in his memory that such a thing was done.

No, he'll be protected 24x7, in solitary. He'll never see the general population.

Wishful thinking, but this guy's gonna have tighter security than our president.

I am more appalled by the people supporting the verdict.

Justifying the verdict and suggesting it's fair because after all he himself didn't kill anyone.
