This low-life fancies himself as a jihadi and loyal Muslim. To be killed by the infidels is to guarantee him a bodacious time in Allah land with virgins. Therefore, is it not a greater punishment for him to be kept alive and see his precious jihad movement disintegrate as he ages in dehumanizing cage? Just wondering....

Does the "life" verdict include 50 years of dining in accordance with Muslim dietary rules? Or can we feed this slimeball anything we want?

"America, you lost. I won,"

I think he would have said that either way. Anything to be in our face.

McDuff was first sentenced to death in 1968 for murdering two teen-age boys and raping and strangling a 16-year-old girl. In 1972, the Supreme Court abolished the death penalty. His sentence was commuted to life in prison and he was released on parole 17 years later.

Making up for lost time, he started murdering again. In the early 90s, he was convicted of abducting and murdering two more women, but several other victims have been identified. Authorities believe he may have murdered as many as a dozen other people. He was finally executed in 1998, saving countless other victims.

This is something the death penalty opponents try not to focus on. Executing a convicted killer introduces a (hopefully small) probability that you execute an innocent. But failure to execute a vicious killer creates the probability that he will kill again. It's a trade off

No, and one of the reasons can be found at Peach's post #572.

I believe a President's role should be one of delegation. Thatmeaning hemakes decisions about how to move forward and then others carry it out. Saddam ordered executions, I do not want that power in the hands of one man, several people yes but not one person.

I like the old movies best.

Here's a heart-tugger older movie that's pretty great (imo):

****

Random Harvest (1942), Greer Garson, Ronald Colman

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0035238/#comment

“One of the most irretrievably romantic films ever made, Random Harvest is an absolute must for romantics of all ages. Ronald Colman is a bit too old for the early parts of the story, but that didn't stop him from giving a magnificent performance. And Greer Garson is every bit his match in a perfect role. However, if you possibly can, read James Hilton's amazing book first; the movie totally negates the important plot twist that makes the last page of the book such an incredibly emotional experience.”

****

pbrown, we do not even have that hope because he will be all alone. There is basically no worries about his abuse and you can bet hislawyers will be ready to sue in a heartbeat if there is even the thought of it.

If he wanted to die then why did he say he won after the verdict was given today?

You took the bait hook, line, and sinker my friend. Sheesh you seem to have swallowed the bait as well.

It's not a thread on the debate about the moral question about the death penalty either but that is what a bunch of new FReepers are turning it into.

If they are going to visit FR, they might as well be exposed to some other truths.

I'm not so broken up over this.

I mean... it COULD be a 'brier rabbit and the tar-baby' situation here, but he WANTED for us to kill him.

He deserves it, but in his twisted, warped mind... even though 'delayed', he would be getting 'martyred' by his enemies. He relishes the thought.

Now he is going to fester in Jail, having to die own his own... of simple old age... after FAILING in his "jihad"... let him think on that.

Let him be alive to see the middle east transformed... hell we can allow Iraqis and future ME Democracies come on field trips to taunt him in his jail cell, lets make a spectacle of his pathetic life.

We can trot him out on anniversaries of 911 in a cage, and let people throw tomatoes at him, or stick him in a dunk tank.

I want him to be lying on his death bed... in his cell... looking at the fruits of our sacrifices today in the Middle East realizing that him and all his buddies have failed completely and that their life has been a WORTHLESS waste.

Let me ask all of you this:

"If you had your choice between a life sentence(say 40-50 years) in solitary confinement 23 hours a day, or 5 years on death row followed by execution, which would you pick?

I know which one I'd pick- i'd pick death, and it isn't close."

His fate wasn't supposed to be his to pick. It was ours, and we failed miserably.

We've lost our way in this country, Wolfstar. Big time.

Yes, we sure have. Prior to President Bush having the guts and foresight to attack both Afghanistan and Iraq, Americans around the world were being slaughtered by the Islamofacist freaks while Clinton and our government treated a war as a garden-variety crime problem.

It's no accident at all that since 9/11/01 we have not been hit again. No African embassy bombings. No USS Cole-like incidents. No 9/11-style massive attacks. Other countries have been hit, and our soldiers have been attacked in Afghanistan and Iraq. But American civilian targets here and overseas have not been hit.

But as time as passed, Americans as a people have continued to slip back into the comfortable old ways of doing things. Justice is once again backwards as members of Congress call for the impeachment of the man who kept us safe these past five years while our fellow citizens spare the life of one of the Islamowarriors who made 9/11 happen. And others of our fellow citizens sit around here bitching and moaning and playing right into the hands of those who want to both impeach the president and spare the lives of men like Moussaui.

I am sick at heart over these developments.
