A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

What do you look forward to spending your free time doing? I love to get out and visit the beach. I especially appreciate the beach before the crowds get here for the summer. Even on mild days during winter, we get out and take walks on the beach. I feel fortunate to live close enough to visit often. My kids, the dog and I enjoy taking long walks at the beach. We look for shells, watch surfers and view the sea birds.

Year round there are surfers out on the ocean. If a storm is coming, you can bet many surfers will be there to ride the big waves. It's exciting to watch them challenge the waves.

The below picture is from a day I took photos of surfers. It was a surprise to come across this one. Uh oh, is that what I think it is? LOL, Fortunately, no shark attacks were reported that day. I think, it's an optical illusion of a surfer.

Or was that just a surfer? :)

Below, on the left Seagulls, resting. The right, is a Spotted Piping Plover. (picture from websearch) They are always running at the shore line. They will run to the water and then away, as the tide comes in. In the spring, they block off parts of the beach so people do not disturb their nests. I get a kick seeing the little ones run about.

Above is The Great Egret. A gorgeous bird. I usually see them at the bay beaches and not as much at the ocean. (picture from a web search)

Above is the Great Blue Heron. We do have them on the beaches but I have yet to see one locally. I took this picture while I was visiting in DC last summer. The Great Blue Heron is a very impressive bird in person and much bigger than what I had imagined from viewing pictures.

"How comforting those Dolphins must have been. When I hear a story like this, I know that is what they were there to do. :)"

Don't you love to contemplate just how many of God's creatures have given us such a wide variety of things?
Our household pets afford comfort and laughter and pure love...other animals amuse us - delight us - teach us lessons - thrill us with their sheer beauty and/or power...

For instance, I love to see up close in a zoo the satiny, colorful coats of tigers - -

And watch black panthers in motion in very large outdoor zoo areas...

You're right. God gave us these beautiful creatures to admire and enjoy. And I am so glad. The earth would be a dull place without them! Thanks for your reminder.

Speaking of "in motion," it is time I ceased that and headed for bed.
See you tomorrow, Lord willing...

Good night and God bless...

I have watched them remove embedded chains and collars from dogs on Animal Planet..when I can bring myself to watch..I am appalled at the cruelty and neglect..Jack is one lucky dog to have you and I am so glad you have him.

My daughter's dog was an abused rescue..He was her shadow.

God has given us so much beauty and wonder!

I "waded" along a South Carolina beach with a school of dolphins very close..I'd change directions..they'd change directions..I got farther out and in deeper water then the experts say I should have at one point but I was entranced. It is one of those communing with God's creatures moments that I treasure.

Heed The Warning

READ: 1 Cor. 10:1,5-11

These things . . . were written for our admonition. —1 Corinthians 10:11

 Our Daily Bread

In the months following the devastating Asian tsunami of December 2004, an amazing story of survival emerged from Simeulue Island, the closest inhabited land to the epicenter of the earthquake.

A news report said that only 7 of the remote Indonesian island’s 75,000 inhabitants died when 30-foot waves struck just half an hour after the quake. For decades, the people had heard stories told by their grandparents of giant waves that killed thousands on this same island in 1907. So when the ground shook and the sea retreated from the shore, the people recalled their grandparents’ warnings and fled to high ground.

First Corinthians 10 describes a spiritual disaster we can avoid. After the people of Israel were delivered from slavery in Egypt, they continued to turn away from the Lord. Recounting their recurring self-indulgence and its disastrous results, Paul wrote: “Now these things became our examples . . . . And they were written for our admonition” (vv.6,11). The story of their failure has been preserved so we can avoid the same disaster of disobedience.

If there are warning signs in our lives today, it’s time to run from self-destructive sin to the high ground of God’s forgiving grace. David C. McCasland

The Bible is filled with example and teaching
On how to avoid all the pitfalls of sin;
And if we will learn from its people and precepts,
The struggles and battles of life we can win.  —Hess

A warning heeded is a disaster avoided.

I have a beach. I love my beach. It has small waves (for short legs) and smelly, dead fish to roll on.

Everybody loves it.
