Rep. Tom Tancredo: Boycott is a Bust
NewsMax ^ | 2 May 2006

Posted on 05/01/2006 5:10:36 PM PDT by Aussie Dasher

Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., a longtime opponent of illegal immigration, says the May 1 Latino worker boycott is "a bust” when it comes to changing public opinion in America.

Tancredo, appearing on Fox News Channel, said the waving of Mexican flags, the chanting of "Today We March, Tomorrow We Vote,” and the in-your-face flaunting of U.S. immigration law will not win many converts outside of large Latino strongholds.

"When the average American looks out on the streets and sees people demanding ‘rights’ ... even though the protesters illegally snuck into our country, it doesn’t play well in Peoria,” Tancredo said. "I don’t think it’s working in favor of the illegals, but I hope they keep it up.”

Tancredo said Americans who may have initially been sympathetic to the plight of families who genuinely wish to come to America by legal means will be turned off by the antics of illegal alien protesters.

"I think some of my [congressional] colleagues in New York and California may be influenced by them, but generally speaking, most of the people I talk to say ‘don’t give in to them; don’t give in to the mobs,’” Tancredo said.

The congressman said most of the e-mails and phone calls he receives from constituents say he and his fellow congressmen should not "give them anything close to amnesty.” Most, he said, have asked Tancredo to persuade the House of Representatives and Senate to stick to the House bill and stricter enforcement of the U.S. borders.

It's FLOUTING the law

Unless the subject is, "my law's better than your law."

I'm still reeling from the fact that law abiding people aren't given the day off to protest anything but illegals are given the day off, with the blessings of management.

Some days I don't get the world and I guess today is one of them.

Bush never said that.

Sure he did Sink, you just don't remember. I am talking about George Bush here, not GW.

"Read my lips, No New Taxes"

Of course we have the BeltWay Republicans to blame for Dole. The guy who, when asked about something in the Republican Platform, replied, "Who cares, I never read it."

"Read my lips, No New Taxes"

The Reagan Revolution was not about not raising taxes. Reagan raised taxes twice.

But, Bush Sr. uttering that phrase, then raising taxes, DID sink him, for sure.

You know, I'd always thought Tancredo was a bit of a wingnut.

But sometimes, a wingnut is precisely what we need.

They can be good at keeping things from falling apart. In this case - America.

If Tom runs in 08 this is really going to get interesting. I just hope it does not put Hillary in the White House. Tom expresses what I feel.

If Hillary wins it will be because the GOP refused to protect our borders in a time of war and instead ran away from and encouraged the invasion of our borders.

TANCREDO FOR PRESIDENT!

Depends on how you see it I guess, in my opinion either one could work.

The "usage note" admits that "flaunt" used for "flout" arises from confusion. I guess you could say they are flaunting their disregard for immigration law, and it's a short step from there to "flaunting immigration law".

Webster's has a firm "usage rules" philosophy - you know, "That's the way it is, get used to it." ... "You can't tell people what to do." It's a very Liberal idea.

And, what in the heck have we gotten for it except two Conservative Supreme Court Justices; which is a big plus?

Don't know about you, but I got a fairly substantial and very welcome tax cut, and I ain't rich by any means.

The two S.C. nominations will have a long lasting and beneficial effect on the future of this country.

So I'm quite thankful that George W. has been twice elected Prez.

If it's of any interest, I've voted Republican since my first vote for Harry S Truman. I would have voted for Roosevelt in 1944, but voting age at that time was 21 and I wasn't quite there. When Roosevelt died, I didn't think Truman had the guts or sense to be Commander in Chief. I was wrong.

We did a little shopping today. I didn't see any stores closed here, and WalMart was packed. Target was a little less congested, and Stater Bros had lines into the aisles, as usual. I believe Tancredo when he says the boycott didn't cause any significant damage.

My bf turned on wrestling so as to avoid the blood pressure boil over on the 6 pm news. I'm going to try and catch the 10 pm news to see which bums showed up at the Los Angeles rally.

Glad to see the illegals' protest was a bust.

Hope that takes some more wind out of the sails of Bush Jr.'s Mexico-merger schemes.

Representative Tancredo is a great example of the party values we need to return to. I hope he throws his hat into the ring in 2008.

The Republican Party in Colorado is supporting an opponent to run against Tancredo in the primary. Seems somebody doesn't like the way Tom is calling attention to this problem. If you're a supporter of his cause, he can use all the help he can get to stay in his congressional seat.

Shopped all over Flagstaff today. Stores doing a healthy business. Only places closed were a couple of mediocre Mexican restaurants. Crummy anyway. Ate at them once . . . Ay yi yi. Who cares? Walmart had lots of Mexican folks, shopping 'til they dropped. Smiles and good cheer all around. We don't need your steenkin boycott Mr. Aztlan Man.

You don't even have to trust the President, Republican or Democrat, to fine or jail employers, if this is done:

Immigration is number one.

Check the polls. Immigration is no higher than three.
