Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., a longtime opponent of illegal immigration, says the May 1 Latino worker boycott is "a bust when it comes to changing public opinion in America.
Tancredo, appearing on Fox News Channel, said the waving of Mexican flags, the chanting of "Today We March, Tomorrow We Vote, and the in-your-face flaunting of U.S. immigration law will not win many converts outside of large Latino strongholds.
"When the average American looks out on the streets and sees people demanding rights ... even though the protesters illegally snuck into our country, it doesnt play well in Peoria, Tancredo said. "I dont think its working in favor of the illegals, but I hope they keep it up.
Tancredo said Americans who may have initially been sympathetic to the plight of families who genuinely wish to come to America by legal means will be turned off by the antics of illegal alien protesters.
"I think some of my [congressional] colleagues in New York and California may be influenced by them, but generally speaking, most of the people I talk to say dont give in to them; dont give in to the mobs, Tancredo said.
The congressman said most of the e-mails and phone calls he receives from constituents say he and his fellow congressmen should not "give them anything close to amnesty. Most, he said, have asked Tancredo to persuade the House of Representatives and Senate to stick to the House bill and stricter enforcement of the U.S. borders.
But one person could flaunt her knowledge of U.S. immigration law while another person flouts U.S. immigration law....
Bush never said that.
Besides, I'm surprised at the "Constitutionists" around here who supported Perot, a man whose "electronic town hall" would have been a direct contravention to the democratic republic.
But one person could flaunt her knowledge of U.S. immigration law while another person flouts U.S. immigration law....
Whatever flouts your boat.......
I would work OVERTIME to get a man like him elected.
PLEASE, PLEASE, run for President.
I saw a boat load of Guatamalan flags on the streets of Miami today.
My day was not impacted at all, save that I got everywhere faster.
Boycott tomorrow too!
Only liberals could stage a protest that makes people want to do the opposite of what they advocate.
But then they usually lose credibility automatically with their "legalize marijuana" picket signs.

Depends on how you see it I guess, in my opinion either one could work.
I think the immigrant community is tired: tired of the attention, tired of the bullying by the professional protesters, tired of being the focus of so much animus.
This is the end of the protests. I don't think today's is going to amount to a hill of beans one way or the other because it was basically a dud.
Great point and one that has solid merit. While I love the work ethic of most Mexicans, I've known them to use any excuse to have a holiday. This, folks, was nothing more than a holiday that backfired.
Finally, a man that understands what's going on. And, what do you know! It's not a democRAT!
Like jedi mind tricks, the cries of illegal aliens only work on the feeble minded.
Heheh...;)
Sure it will Sink, all we have to do is blame the illegals for the gas supply, just check the freeways today, people all over California are loving their commute to work today. No traffic, we may see a trend developing here.
In Southern California the number 1 issue is traffic. I drove into Orange County and back at midday today and WOW ! I have not seen traffic this light during the day in over 10 years. It was awesome ! Driving the freeways was also a lot easier. Obviously these illegals and their sympathizers are not too good at driving the So Cal freeways. So kick out illegals for less smog, less accidents, lower auto insurance rates and a cleaner environment !
In addition to that, a friend of mine noted how quiet and peaceful his neighborhood was without all the leaf blowers and lawnmowers running. Not a bad trade. We live with poor landscaping to be able to use our freeways again.
What do we do with daddy when he is a violent criminal?
I just checked the "official Live Thread" listing the companies that supported the shut down. Cargill is there and I was surprised to learn from Mr. Prairiebreeze that Cargill actually led the pack last week with a press release announcing they were supporting the no-work day.
That's very un-Cargillesque...they usually play their cards a lot closer to the vest. There isn't any official press release on their website that I've been able to find.
Mr. Prairie speculated they may have come out first with the announcement last week in order to move the commodities markets...
Bush senior was making a late comeback up until he made that weird 'bozo' comment.
Perot hated Bush senior. Some sort of baggage from Texas.
Granted we would later learn that Bush was right. Clinton and Gore were a couple of Bozo's.
