A new audiotape from al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden will be aired today on the Arabic news station al Jazeera, the organisation claims.

While that is a point, you are missing the big picture.
If Bin Laden nukes a city, normally moderate people like me will demand a complete anhiliation of Iran/Syria/ect in response. Where does that end? Who knows?
What else would I want? Who knows? Lie detectors before allowing immigrants to enter this country? (And I'm not a complete isolationist, my wife is Japanese.) Require everyone on the US, even citizens, to go through periodic lie detectors to ensure that they remain patriotic? Establishing technology checkpoints that require a badge to go about your daily life? Who knows what other nutty ideas I would have? Okay, much of which is far fecthed, but life will be very different.
It's safe to say the world will be radically different.

No, it wasn't. While there are many in this country who don't care, who have fallen to the evil, the majority of us are still a people of hope. We live every day doing our jobs, saying our prayers, supporting our troops, providing for our families, friends and the needy. This is the America I know. It's the America that scares the s--- out of Bin Laden and all those who have pledged their lives to the destruction of any who disagree with them.
Americans have pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to defend and uphold the concept that we will be a free people dedicated to the idea that all of us are created equal.

The ruling to kill the Americans and their allies--civilians and military--is an individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it, in order to liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy mosque from their grip, and in order for their armies to move out of all the lands of Islam, defeated and unable to threaten any Muslim. This is in accordance with the words of Almighty God, "and fight the pagans all together as they fight you all together," and "fight them until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in God."
This is in addition to the words of Almighty God "And why should ye not fight in the cause of God and of those who, being weak, are ill-treated and oppressed--women and children, whose cry is 'Our Lord, rescue us from this town, whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from thee one who will help!'"
We -- with God's help -- call on every Muslim who believes in God and wishes to be rewarded to comply with God's order to kill the Americans and plunder their money wherever and whenever they find it. We also call on Muslim ulema, leaders, youths, and soldiers to launch the raid on Satan's U.S. troops and the devil's supporters allying with them, and to displace those who are behind them so that they may learn a lesson.

Yeah who cares. Bin Laden has been putting out message since 9/11. We are told every few months that we will be attacked. NOTHING has happened since 9/11. Even London turned out to not be A.Q. So who cares anymore? I don't. War on terror blah

People complain because "that" television station CONSTANTLY airs what Bin Laden says. On the other hand Free Republic is first to post it in breaking news. What is the difference. Perhaps WE should ignore the man and stop complaining about OTHERS not ignoring him. We make Bin L just as relevant by posting this in breaking news.

I agree, this is simply the Ali shuffle.
And yet we have had a major city and several minor ones severely damaged in the past year and we are still going on as a nation with only minor adjustments.

It is my honest opinion we are past the point where a real nuke could be smuggled in to our country thanks to the Patriot Act. MAYBE, the terrorists could pull off a Dirty Bomb. Dirty bombs are "The," non-event of the year. It's a terror weapon, designed to let everyone's imagination scare the bejeepers out of them with their own worst fears. A blast from a dirty bomb will only be effective in a very, very short area around the explosion.
We are a BIG nation with many resources. Threats of these weapons are made to cause panic, terror, and to demoralize. If we don’t run around like sheep they won’t use this stuff after they find out it’s no fun. The government is going nuts over this stuff because they have to protect every inch of America. We all only gotta protect ourselves.
