While that is a point, you are missing the big picture.

If Bin Laden nukes a city, normally moderate people like me will demand a complete anhiliation of Iran/Syria/ect in response. Where does that end? Who knows?

What else would I want? Who knows? Lie detectors before allowing immigrants to enter this country? (And I'm not a complete isolationist, my wife is Japanese.) Require everyone on the US, even citizens, to go through periodic lie detectors to ensure that they remain patriotic? Establishing technology checkpoints that require a badge to go about your daily life? Who knows what other nutty ideas I would have? Okay, much of which is far fecthed, but life will be very different.

It's safe to say the world will be radically different.
