Former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said on Thursday he was seriously thinking about another White House bid in 2008 and will decide before the year is out.
"I will make that decision toward the end of the year, but I'm thinking about it hard," Kerry said in response to a question at the Latin Economic Forum at the United Nations.
"If you can get help me find 60,000 votes in Ohio ...," he joked, referring to the close race in that state on which his 2004 loss to President Bush hinged.
Kerry, a U.S. senator from Massachusetts, has criticized Bush on a range of issues, particularly the war in Iraq.
On Thursday, he focused on Latin America, saying Bush lost interest in the region after the September 11 attacks.
"Relations between the United States and Latin America today are at their lowest point since the end of the Cold War," Kerry said.
Other Democrats seen as potentially seeking the nomination include U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner and Kerry's former running mate, John Edwards.
My first response was to think this is a thought crime.
LOL!!
"I would not be just a nothin',
my head all full of stuffin'..."
Is this where I kin git help find me a huntin' license ?
Last time Kerry thought he thought up the "W stands for wrong" campaign slogan, alienating at least 1/26th of the population whose middle initial is W.
He shouldn't think too much...except how the forces of Hillary will "discover" that the Swift Boat Vets weren't that wrong at all.
The reasoning with the 60,000 is that if 60,000 people who voted for Bush instead had voted for Kerry, it subtracts 60,000 from Bush's total and adds 60,000 to Kerry's total. Which makes it a tie, then Kerry gets 1 more vote somewhere else to win the state.
Well since Kerry still hasn't revealed his plans from the last election, he can run on those plans again.
He won three Purple Hearts too, you have to admire the way he doesn't boast about it.
"Yes, I expect it is very hard for Kerry to be thinking."
Yeah, what with that stellar 76% average and all...
He would still be 60,000 votes short. He lost by 120,000 votes.
I thought Kerry was a terrible candidate because of his constant flip-flopping on every issue, but I would actually get some kind of satisfaction from watching him wipe the floor with Hilary in the Democratic Primary Debates. She is such an inept public speaker and so lacking in charisma that I think she has no chance of being nominated regardless of who runs against her. I have a feeling Chucky Schumer might pop up in the primaries and take the nomination. I cannot really think like a Democrat, but this is what my instincts tell me.
he says 60,000 more votes, not 60,000 votes switchers
RUN JOHN RUN !
I thought it was something like 138,000 in Ohio he lost by......
Again, proof there are some severely diseased minds on FR.....
So, do you suppose Senator Kerry would be orange all over, rather than just his face?

Good points although I think Hillary's real weakness will show more in the general election (should she get there) than in primaries. She can play moderate a lot better against Kerry than against a Republican.
Wow, that's bad, less charisma than Senator Kerry? I didn't know it was possible.
Bush won Ohio by 136,483 votes.
Don't think TOO HARD.......
How quickly we forget Al Gore.
"Bush won Ohio by 136,483 votes."
Maybe Kerry thought if he got 60,000 extra he could count them twice and then go to court.
