:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Afghanistan Calls for Crackdown at Border
(Full Story)

Pakistan needs to do more to crack down on terrorism along the Pakistani-Afghan border, a spokesman for Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Tuesday.

Rahim Karimi said in the news conference that Afghanistan need greater "cooperation" from both its eastern neighbor and the international community in its battle against Islamic militants.

Coalition and Afghan forces have in recent days been fighting fierce battles against Taliban fighters near the Afghan-Pakistan border.

SOMALIA: AL-QAEDA RECRUITING IN MOGADISHU, REPORT SAYS
Mogadishu, 29 May (AKI) - The provisional Somali cabinet confirmed on Monday a report that terror network al-Qaida has recruitment centres in the capital Mogadishu, Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported on Monday. Palestinian magazine al-Manar claimed, citing anonymous sources, that Islamic militants arrive in the capital from all over the country to join al-Qaeda. The militants are reportedly first recruited by a local network linked to Osama bin Laden's organisation before training in Mogadishu. US secret service agents are in Somalia to monitor the recruitment centres, the Palestinian magazine also said.

Somalia has been without an effective central government since President Siad Barre was overthrown in 1991. Today's administration, the 14th attempt to establish a cabinet since 1991, has no civil service or government buildings and faces a formidable task in attempting to bring reconciliation to a country divided into clan fiefdoms.

INTERNET NEWS
"Google forgets
Memorial Day?
Search engine's catchy holiday logos have honored
Earth Day, Persian New Year – but not war dead"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Google's habit of celebrating holidays like New Year's, Halloween, Christmas and Thanksgiving by altering its logo to match the season's theme has been extended in the past to honor the birthdays of famous inventors, scientists, artists and musicians, as well as Earth Day and the Persian New Year, but on the day Americans honor those who died serving their country, it's business as usual at the Internet-search giant.

Memorial Day visitors to the website found Google's standard logo – but no mention of Memorial Day. This was true as well at the company's news-search site.

Since 1999, Google has redesigned its logo for major holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving, as well as minor ones like Ground Hog Day and St. Patrick's Day. It's even honored artists like Picasso, Monet, and Andy Warhol as well as Earth Day and the Burning Man festival."

"Democrats: Today's 'Tokyo Rose'"'
by Craig R. Smith

© 2006 WorldNetDaily.com

COMMENTARY SNIPPET: "''Your President is lying to you.''

''This war is illegal.''

''You can't win the war.''

These phrases have been repeated over and over again by voices in the Democratic Party. Why in the world, during a time of war, would any American publicly say things so inflammatory and negative while troops are in harm’s way?

Why would folks like Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy, John Murtha, John Kerry, and Al Gore and friends continue this daily dose of Democratic attack on the president in his efforts to fight the war on terror? What is it that motivates members of Congress to openly berate with words like ''liar,'' ''betrayal,'' ''illegal"?'"

COMMENTARY SNIPPET #2: "I received an e-mail from a dear friend the other day that reminded me of a time in American history when similar language was used. During World War II, our enemies developed a method specifically designed to demoralize our troops fighting for the future of the Free World. It was a method that, after years of development, psychological warfare experts were confident would have a devastating effect on American GIs. These experts produced scripts that were provided to a famous broadcaster who, everyday, would package three main points in different ways while the core message remained the same:

Your president is lying to you
This war is illegal
You cannot win this war

The famous broadcaster was ''Tokyo Rose.'' Each day her goal was clear. Do everything she could do to impact the fighting men in hopes of one day breaking their morale and ultimately causing them to give up. She failed. The American GI was focused on the mission. He was resolved to fight the good fight and make his country proud. Honor was the highest calling, not scoring points in the media.

Listen closely to the words coming from the Democrats and you will hear, verbatim, the same words used by ''Tokyo Rose'' with one slight difference. Reid and Pelosi claim to support our troops before they demoralize them. Hey, wait a minute. ''Tokyo Rose'' told our soldiers she was on their side just like the Democrats are telling our troops today. I guess there is no difference."

"Potential terrorists lurking in Canadian cities, says spy agency"

BRUCE CHEADLE
Monday, May 29, 2006

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "OTTAWA (CP) - Canada has its own crop of homegrown terrorists capable of acts like the deadly attacks on London's transit system last summer, says Canada's spy agency.

"I can tell you that all of the circumstances that led to the London transit bombings . . . are resident here and now in Canada," Jack Hooper, operations director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, told a Senate committee Monday.

The threat from Canadian-bred terrorists is considered by CSIS to be on a par with external terror threats, Hooper said during an appearance with RCMP Commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli.

He did not, however, say how many homegrown terror suspects there are in Canada, where they live, or which groups they are connected with."

ARTICLE SNIPPET #2: "Hooper pointed to several examples of people who had lived in Canada, and later took part in terrorist attacks. He said a common thread was time spent training at terror camps in Afghanistan."

ARTICLE SNIPPET #2: "Liberal Senator Colin Kenny, the chairman of the committee, said Britain's experience last summer should provide a wake-up call for the problems Canada could encounter with homegrown terrorists.

"They'd been born in country," Kenny said of the group that detonated a series of bombs, killing 52 civilians and four terrorists last July 7."

UK Muslim protests new anti-terror laws: would limit "speaking about jihad"

As Charles Johnson says, "Uh. I think that’s supposed to be the idea." And if it isn't, it should be: there should be clear legislation that specifies that teaching jihad -- which traditionally and primarily has meant warfare against unbelievers in order to establish the hegemony of the Islamic social order -- is unacceptable.

"Muslims targeted by glorification legislation," from The Muslim News, with thanks to LGF:

The Government was condemned last month on its glorification antiterrorism legislation at an event to celebrate Prophet Muhammad (p)’s birthday held on April 18. “The Government is spending more time on anti terror legislation and is taking away Muslims’ civil liberties and freedom,” said Secretary General of Union of Muslim Organisations (UMO), Syed Aziz Pasha. He was responding to Home Office Minister, Fiona Mactaggart, who told the guests that the anti terror legislation was meant “to make us safer” and that the outlawing of glorification of terrorism “does not prevent reasonable speeches.”

Mactaggart said the Government was “looking forward to continuing collaboration with the Muslim community.” It is “this relationship that helps policing work,” she said. But Pasha said anti terror legislation was targeted at the Muslims and the new addition of glorification would prevent them from speaking about jihad as this would be considered as terrorism.

Ready for the soccer jihad?

The images comes from Internet Haganah (thanks to Sr. Soph). It appears that this is some kind of World Cup soccer ball, with the flags of the various participating nations -- including Saudi Arabia.

So what? Well, as you can see, the Saudi flag prominently features the Shahada, the Islamic profession of faith: "There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger."

And...people are going to kick that?

This one could rival the Cartoon Jihad. But of course, it is never possible to guess about what will be chosen as the next pretext to stoke the sense of grievance and rage that the jihadists need to garner support and recruits.
