The Islamic Emirate of Ramadi?
We understand this to say that Zarqawi & Co. intend to declare Ramadi an "Islamic Emirate".
Nothing a few thousand US Marines can't cure.

US rewards 2 Filipinos for tip leading to terror suspect
INQ7 ^ | May 29, 2006 | AP
Posted on 05/28/2006 11:31:07 PM PDT by FairOpinion
TWO Filipinos will share a 500,000-dollar reward from the US government for a tip that led to the arrest of a key terror suspect in the southern Philippines last year, the US Embassy said Monday. Hilarion del Rosario Santos III, the alleged head of the Rajah Solaiman Movement, a group of Christian converts to Islam that has been closely associated with Al Qaeda-linked militants, was arrested in southern Zamboanga city in October together with six other suspects.
His group is believed to have links to Indonesian-based Jemaah Islamiyah and the Abu Sayyaf, which is operating in the southern Philippines, and was suspected in the February 2004 bombing of a ferry in Manila that killed 116 people and the simultaneous bombings in Manila and other cities a year later, which killed eight people.
He also was connected to plots to attack the US Embassy in Manila and American citizens, the embassy said.
It said the money, to be presented Wednesday, comes from the US State Department Print this story Send this story Write the editor Reprint this article View other stories
"Rewards for Justice" program, which provides cash rewards for information leading to the arrests of terrorists involved in acts against Americans.
The US government has already paid hundreds of thousands of dollars (euros) in rewards for the capture and killings of Abu Sayyaf members and leaders.
US counterterrorism training of Filipino troops has been credited with successes against the Abu Sayyaf, which is on a US list of terrorist organizations.

"President defies most Republicans on immigration"
May 29, 2006
by Phyllis Schlafly ( bio | archive | contact )
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "As President Bush's poll numbers drop dramatically even among his base, the question most frequently asked by angry Republicans is: Why, oh why, is Bush so stubbornly rejecting the advice of his supporters even though that advice is consistent with the thunderous message from public opinion surveys?
The reliable Rasmussen survey, for example, reports that by a 63 percent to 19 percent margin, voters want legislation that controls the borders before trying to change the status of illegal immigrants.
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger encapsuled the typical reaction to Bush's May 15 televised speech: "I have not heard the president say that our objective is to secure the borders no matter what it takes. That's what I want to hear."
Bush's dogmatic statement that we can't stop aliens from illegally entering our country unless legislation is packaged "together" with a guest-worker program is a non sequitur, nonsense, and untrue.
So what gives?
Here are some of the speculations grass-roots Republicans are making in regard to Bush's behavior:
(a) Bush prides himself on being a man of his word and he gave his word to Mexican President Vicente Fox that he would never stop the migration of Mexicans into the United States;
(b) Bush made a Faustian bargain with the big-money guys who raised more political money in 2000 than all other Republicans combined in order to nominate and elect him president;
(c) Bush is a globalist at heart and wants to carry out his father's oft-repeated ambition of a "new world order";
(d) Bush meant what he said, at Waco, Texas, in March 2005, when he announced his plan to convert the United States into a "Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America" by erasing our borders with Canada and Mexico."

Al-Qaeda's Hidden Arsenal and Sponsors: Interview with Hamid Mir (Al Qaeda may have nukes)
Canada Free Press ^ | May 25, 2006 | Ryan Mauro
Posted on 05/29/2006 12:47:58 AM PDT by FairOpinion
Hamid Mir truly has deep access inside Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. He is best known as the last journalist to interview Osama Bin Laden, and the only one to do so after the attacks of September 11, 2001. He is currently the Bureau Chief of Islamabad for Geo TV and is writing a biography on Osama Bin Laden. He has interviewed countless members of Al-Qaeda and the Taliban in many countries over the years.
HM: I dont think that Iraq had any direct link with Al-Qaeda. Saddam tried to contact Osama Bin Laden in 1998 but he was not entertained. Syria is a safe haven for Al-Qaeda now but the Syrian government is not trusted by the Al-Qaeda commanders in Iraq. I will not comment on North Korea. This is a point on which I am still not clear and am still trying to investigate.
I met a Taliban commander in Ghazni last year, who showed me a small mobile phone bomb. He said that they will use that bomb against the British troops very soon in southern Afghanistan. How can they make mobile phone bombs on their own? The Taliban are receiving weapons from Al-Qaeda also, which are being smuggled in from Iran.
I interviewed not only Al-Qaeda operatives but met scientists and top U.S. officials also. I will have the details in my coming book.
At least two Al-Qaeda operatives claimed that the organization smuggled suitcase nukes inside America. But I have no details on who did it. But I do have details about who smuggled uranium inside America and how.

FWIW -- I dont' know how much of this to believe. On one hand, Hamid Mir claims AQ didn't work with Saddam, when in fact there is overwhelming evidence that they did work together.
Then he talks about AQ's nukes, which is possible, so who knows.
There is more interesting stuff in the article, it's worth reading, but I would take it with a greain of salt, interesting nevertheless, because some of it may well be true, question is how much.

Senior IDF officials told Ynet that the intelligence alert that led to the arrest is one of the most severe they have received so far. "This was a joint plan of the Islamic Jihad, Fatah and the Popular Front to carry out a large scale terror attack in Israel," an army source explained.
The IDF is still in possession of 80 general terror warnings, and 15 specific alerts. Most of the warnings originate in the northern Samaria area and the Nablus region, and refer to the Islamic Jihad organization

UK troops seize weapons in Basra [Iraq]
BBC News ^ | 2006 May 29
Posted on 05/29/2006 1:33:49 AM PDT by Wiz
British forces in Iraq say they have seized a large cache of weapons and bomb-making equipment in Basra. Troops from the Queen's Royal Hussars believe they found enough material to make dozens of explosives. One device was disguised as roadside debris.
This month two UK soldiers died after a similar device went off and a patrol narrowly missed being hit on Sunday.
The find comes as President Jalal Talabani calls on Iraq's new government to improve security in Basra.

Four years ago, The Economist ran a cover story on the winner of the Brazilian election, the socialist leader Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. It was an event of great hemispherical significance. Hence the headline: "The Meaning Of Lula."
The following week, a Canadian reader, Asif Niazi, wrote to the magazine: "Sir, The meaning of Lula in Urdu, is penis."

Saudis could have penetrated Al Qaida (Count down to the termination of Al Qaida network?)
Middle East Newsline ^ | 2006 May 29

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Islamic supporters have raised the prospect that Saudi intelligence might have penetrated Al Qaida.
An article on an Al Qaida-aligned forum asserted that Saudi intelligence penetrated or established Global Islamic Media Front in an effort to monitor Al Qaida recruitment. GIMF has claimed to represent Al Qaida, particularly in operations in Saudi Arabia.
"Almost every day brings a new indication of the penetration of the Saudis of this [Global Islamic Media] Front," a web posting by somebody identified as "Al Mushtaq lil-Janna" said.

Gratitude
None of us in America would be here, living in safety and prosperity, were it not for the sacrifices of our troops defending our lands in conflicts dating from the time of the American Revolution and before that.
For that any gratitude expressed in words would be insufficient, but I nevertheless tender it on this Memorial Day to all those who wear and have worn the uniform.
And I hope that political correctness and short-sighted self-interest will not long continue to keep our noble fighting forces tied up unnecessarily in quixotic Wilsonian adventures, and that those forces will be freed up, sooner rather than later, to defend us more effectively against the global jihad.
