Bill Oreilly was complaining about the outgoing CEO of Exxon Mobil making too much money and Cavuto pointed out that Oil Company CEOs provide a much bigger service to society then talk show hosts who also make millions...Bill was speechless.
It was nauseating to see (c)BS blaiming the high cost of gas, in part, on this guy's retirement package. They just spent millions to have a complete airhead read us the news, replacing the fossilized dinosaur that supplanted the forgery-meister. If there's anywhere people get market rates rather than paid for contribution to society, it's the entertainment industry. The "news" divisions are no exceptions.
Let's take that CEO's golden parachute and split it up in gas. Should be good for a buck or two off our next fill up.
See what happens when the goobermint takes the lead in controlling salaries? And you want more.
No thanks.
It's not the goobermints job to start second-guessing the BODs.
I'm sticking with capitalism and the market.
It works EVERY time it's tried.
No way. Cavuto could just headbutt him once with that big head and it would all be over.
I love Neil, he's so cool.
Too bad, we're not obligated to like Bill O'Reilly.
But I'm getting a good laugh out of your post. Thanks! :D
He does..
I have little regard for either O'Reilly or Cavuto. I can somewhat agree with O'Reilly about the extremely high pay for the executives. It really has gotten out of hand and gone to embarassing levels - and believe me - I do respect the free market aspects of the economy.
But, to hear those high paid bubble head tv talkers complian is a joke. How many jobs and salaries are the directly responsible for? Their dresser and make up person.
I remember when Katie Bubbles got here last deal. the union was on strike for higher pay. Katie's deal is announced just when the strike was settled. Coincidentally, she got a $5,000,000 raise - 50 production people lost their jobs in the settlement.
I don't have the solution to it and don't believe that there should be any legislation over it. Somewhere I read that the average CEO pay was about $11,000,000 - I suppose for the top 1,000 companies. So, they are getting about what katie Bubbles gets for grinning and giggling foolishly. Comparatively, only about 25% of what they should get if her's is fair.
Some years ago, when Mr. Raymond reached mandatory retirement age, the board and shareholders begged him to stay on ... and he did for several more years. No one is glad to see him go.
The total oil reserves of the top 10 countries (largest estimated reserves) is about 1,100 billion barrels. If all 52 gallons were oil products we used, then we'd go through that in about 435 years on
our own. So who's worried?
Thankfully, that will never happen.
This man ran a successful oil company for 45 years and got 400mil at retirement. Gosh Oprah has talked on TV for less than that and is worth a billion. Imagine that.
"Buying more Exxon tomorrow.'
Really. FReepers have good intentions but when it comes to economics this is not the place to learn.
"Sounds like America needs to look at the distribution of wealth at the top if you ask me'
Commie
Seriously. If you want a say in the pay of the Exxon CEO then buy 51% of the voting shares. Otherwise, and until you are the owner, pound sand. Owners of the company should be the ONLY people that sets pay scales. PERIOD.
Yeah, I'm with you. I like both of those guys, and Dobbs too.
Sounds like Dobbs is making quite an impression on people on the illegal issue. O'Reilly has been calling for Reserves on the border for ages!
Careful, therut...you will be labeled racists by some liberals here. Apparently, writing the word "Negro", as I did,is considered "racist" by the PCers here.
Could it be that when people here complain about the bloated paychecks of the Oprahs and O'Reillys (O"Reilies? har) of the world, they are really complaining about all the people who watch them rather than the people who wrote their contracts?
In that light, the phrase "Is Bill O worth X million dollars?" takes on a whole new meaning. :)
