Fox News

Posted on 04/17/2006 5:53:30 PM PDT by Borges

Bill Oreilly was complaining about the outgoing CEO of Exxon Mobil making too much money and Cavuto pointed out that Oil Company CEOs provide a much bigger service to society then talk show hosts who also make millions...Bill was speechless.

Complain to the government. All of the higher oil prices after Katirina were used to pay for more expensive gas prices in Venezuela, Mexico, and the Middle East.

Off-set the prices by permitting more oil rigs off the shores of California and Florida. Drill in Anwar. Build more refineries. Return to the building and use of nuclear power.

Speak LOUDLY. The oil companies are paying more, so you pay more. It's that simple. You CAN make a difference. The use of more nuclear power has been one of the issues that Vice President Cheney has been very vocal on.

and not hold on to a company like GM and AT&T [once fine stocks] until the companies are in the toilet.

....or Lucent. Ouch!

Cavuto and O'Rielly appear to have a genuine dislike for each other. If they came to blows, I'll place my money on Bill. He has a good four inches in height and 40 pounds on Cavuto.

O'Reilly would certainly win hands down in the whining department.

O'Reilly isn't worth the millions he's paid. Not even close.

Really? Have you done an analysis of his salary as a percentage of the cost of producing the show and compared it to the revenues generated during his time slot?

What kind of conservative doesn't believe a person is worth what the market will bear?

I'd say Bill has a lot more than four inches in height over Neil Cavuto, since Neil is in a wheelchair due to Muscular Dystrophy. If I recall correctly

I get so sick of people like you putting down O'Reilly. It doesn't matter one iota if you like him or not. He has something going for him as HIS show is number one and has been for a long time on all of cable news. Personally I don't like Oprah but she is still popular and a billionaire whether I like her or not.

Yep. One over paid tv head telling another how collusion isn't happening. :-)

What is up with this place? Do you pay Cavuto or O'Reilly?

What kind of conservative complains that a person is "overpaid" if he isn't employing the person?

Well, now we're in full agreement.

I want us to develop alternative power sources for sure. I have for a long time, since Jimmy Carter's oil "shortage".

(Now I PLAY THE SYMPATHY CARD)

I have Ted Kennedy and John Kerry as my two Senators and you know that I'm frustrated all the time with my representation. The Cape Wind project (Wind mill power farm off the Cape Cod coast)is all but dead because of my NIMBY Senators Kennedy and Kerry.

Anyway folks, thanks for the dialogue, must head off to bed now.

Why?

Cavuto is right.
Unless you're a stockholder, your opinion (or mine) on how much a CEO makes is less than worthless. My salary is an agreement between what my company is willing to pay and what I'm willing to work for. What anybody else things is irrelevant.

I'm sure that you wouldn't want some outsider second-guessing your salary.

"Sounds like America needs to look at the distribution of wealth at the top if you ask me. Some accountability seems in order."

You're kidding, right?
Just who would you appoint to be governor of everybody's salaries? Congress? Some "independent" watchdog organization? I'm sure I could find a few people who could take exception to your salary. So what if they don't know squat, as lonk as they hold you "accountable".

Nope. I'll take the free market.
When I want accountability, I'll look to the OWNERS of the company (shareholders). I doubt you'll find too many willing to trade their profits for a reduction in that guy's retirement benefits.

Remember, it's not what you're worth.
It's what you NEGOTIATE.

Cavuto has MS he's been in a chair for years.
I had no idea. His generally positive outlook and cheerful demeanor have never given me a clue that he is physically disabled. I sincerely hope that he will continue to manage his condiiton as well as possible. I have always "liked" Cavuto ... now, I must rethink my position ... and change like to admire ... More power to him ...

Cavuto and O'Rielly appear to have a genuine dislike for each other. If they came to blows, I'll place my money on Bill. He has a good four inches in height and 40 pounds on Cavuto.

"Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto had already survived a near-fatal bout with Hodgkin's lymphoma when he suddenly started to suffer episodes of blindness, tingling and other strange symptoms back in 1997.

He thought the cancer was back, but he was wrong. Doctors told Cavuto that he had multiple sclerosis. "In a way, it was worse," he says now. "With MS, there is no cure."

About a decade earlier, Cavuto had fought a deadly tumor with chemo and radiation. He won that battle, but the MS diagnosis left him with a host of unpredictable symptoms and the prospect of getting far worse.

Eight years after getting his diagnosis, the 47-year-old TV journalist is still walking — most days without a cane. He suffers from balance problems, weakness and back pain, but he's still the anchor of the popular cable business show Your World with Neil Cavuto. And he manages to make it all seem easy despite the fact that on a bad day, he'll have a sudden loss of vision that makes reading the teleprompter impossible.
