Gay parents crash White House party
Herald Sun ^ | 18 April 2006

US President George W. Bush and his wife Laura launched the annual White House Easter egg party today while managing to avoid any awkward moments with dozens of gay couples and their children who attended the outdoor event.

The Easter Egg Roll is a traditional all-American event held on the White House lawn each year since 1878, where kids push an egg with a giant wooden spoon, often with the proud president and his wife looking on.

But gay groups joined the queue for tickets - which were given out to families on a first-come, first served basis at the White House on Sunday.

Despite the opposition of conservative religious groups, Mr Bush and his wife Laura chose not to prevent the gay parents from attending.

The gay groups said their gesture was meant to make their presence felt in American society even though Mr Bush opposes legalising gay marriage.

There were no confrontations or tense moments as the opening of the event was closed to the public, with the president and his wife meeting invited guests, including families of White House staff and volunteers.

The gay parents also chose a discreet approach without any explicit protest, identifying themselves with rainbow-coloured flowers.

"Like other parents in this country, we want to give our children the best opportunities, to shower them with love, to teach them respect and a love for the rich and diverse traditions America has to offer them," said Jennifer Chrisler, executive director for the Family Pride Coalition.

Family Pride has been behind the calls for gay groups to crash the White House party which conservatives have condemned as an attempt to politicise a family event.

In damp, chilly weather, First Lady Laura Bush issued an official welcome before the Easter eggs were rolled across soggy grass outside the White House.

"In Washington, we know that spring has arrived when the White House lawn is filled with children for the Easter Egg Hunt," she said. "I want to thank all of the children here today who brought their parents with them."

The First Lady avoided commenting on the gay couples and before the event her office noted the rules: children of all ages are welcome but there must be at least one aged under seven in each group and no more than two adults in each group.

I think it sounds pretty appropriate to me, the commercialization of "Easter", named after the pagan goddess, Ester. And what in the heck do Easter eggs
have to do with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ? Because Ester was the fertility goddess. Perfect that homosexuals showed up to a compromised celebration of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Must be terrible. Much worse than all those straight families where Dad beats up the kids and chokes them to death.

Yes, it's better for children to be raised by two men or two women than to be choked to death. But that's hardly a recommendation for homosexual adoptions.

Children were meant to be raised by their natural parents. In the event that this is not possible, adoption by another married couple is the next best option.

However, there is a large portion of the male population who finds "girl on girl" porn to be anything but disgusting. It is only man on man sex they find disgusting.

Maybe that's because man2man contact is almost by definition the dirtiest, filthiest, most prone to spread disease, act that a human can do with another. Sure, you'll say, heteros do it too, but I would say not so much except among the group that would do it with a man too.

Not that I'm so crazy about dykes, but it's definitely a degree less offensive than the "stick it anywhere" mentality of the male homosexual. Oh, and I've read that in spite of that, the life expectancy among female homosexuals isn't particularly higher than that of males. Somewhere in the 50s, IINM.

Too smug. Here on FR, people can voice their opinions and, unless they are completely inappropriate, they are allowed to stay. Try to disagree with anyone on DU and you are tombstoned. Your attitude that Freepers are intolerant fits well with the lefties. Maybe you are on the wrong site. Veronica's point about orphanages was false. Maybe we just appreciate the truth here.

How do you know they aren't molesters? How do you know what they do at night?

The anus was not designed to accept everything that gays are putting up there. Watch for them to start turning up with anal cancer. It is on the horizon.

And you can BET the perverts will be at the WH EVERY YEAR from now on. It's all part of the AGENDA. It's the CULTURE OF PERVERSION = Democratic party, doing whatever it takes (even using children in this situation) to advance their cause. It's that simple.

Well put.
George and Laura have way too much class to let the scumbags incite a scene. And no matter how many times the sodomy lobby attacks, it will never succeed in bringing back the Clinton tradition of condom, bong, and dildo Christmas tree ornaments. At least, they won't succeed with a Republican President.

The rates of drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence, and child abuse are far higher in homo households. That's been repeatedly demonstrated. Don't try that dysfunctional heterosexual vs. functional homo house, homo-leninist meme. It's spurious, we've been there, done that, seen your type before.

I would NEVER let my child sleep over at a pillowbiters house. NEVER.

Those jobs are reserved for professed homosexuals, sort of like AA guys teach safety classes for DWI offenders.

Typhoid Mary was politically naive.

Are you kidding me? Do you think that gays and lesbians are not abusers?? Men and women of any sexual orientation can be abusers. Just ask Jeffrey Dahmer. Oh, wait, you can't. He died in prison. He was there for having sex with gay men and then killing them and cutting up their bodies and eating some of them. All people who adopt must be screened. A mother and a father are the best option. Why do you think anyone has the right to decide that a baby doesn't deserve a parent of each sex? Men and women bring entirely different natural skills to parenting. Children deserve the advantage of learning from both a mother and a father.

Monkeys mount other monkeys in a display of natural "prison sex" behavior -- it displays dominance.

Both my brother and wife and my sister and husband have adopted from the far east. You're right, it is tough for 'normal'families to adopt here.It is also very expensive.

They want to be normal and show that they are just like other parents yet they insist on separating themselves and identifying themselves by wearing the stupid leis. Not that anyone would need to see the lei to figure out who was gay at the event.

I thought we were supposed to stay out of 'their bedrooms'.
How about losing the leis and no one would notice? But that's the point. They want to shove their 'lifestyle' in people's faces.

I agree with you. And vehemently disagree with Sean Hannity on this one. But, you will see you need to watch your opinions on this one on FR!

Nobody tells me what to think. I am smart enough and experienced enough to think for myself. And certainly no pundit tells me what to think. I happen to agree with certain folks on many issues, pundits like as Rush and Krauthammer for instance, and it's rewarding to see my views so elegantly stated as they are able to do, but I am not a blank slate upon which anyone writes.

My views are my own and I don't much care what people think of them, at FR or anywhere else.

So what?

You can't state that they aren't molestors from outward appearances.
