He's definitely in the running. Have you honestly not seen this on FR?

He's the name I've seen mentioned most often.

Is his name being tossed around for 2008? It that is a serious question ... yes, Allen is considered among the top-tier contenders for the Republican nomination ... and almost certainly will run.
To: HHKrepublican_2
From what I know about him, I could support him.
His candidacy has been mentioned here, lots of times. He was one of the candidates mentioned on a poll here.

He's still a senator, and in my book that's two strikes against him.

George's Presidential leadership 'vibe' Any FReepers know more about allen? Is his name being tossed around for 2008?
On June 15, Sen. George Allen (R-Virginia) horrified his constituents when he cast a vote against family values by adding sexual orientation to the Federal Hate Crimes Act. Sen. Allens support of the homosexual lobby directly contradicts his promise during his campaign for U.S. Senate in 2000 to oppose pro-homosexual legislation.

Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) opposes same-sex marriage but has yet to join his GOP colleagues who have come out in support of the Federal Marriage Amendment

Human Events Online wanted to know where Senate Republicans stood on open borders/amnesty, so it asked them:
The key question: Will the Senate approve an amnesty for illegal aliens?
The editors of Human Events define amnesty as granting any kind of legal residency status to an illegal alien without first making him return to his home country.
The immigration bill passed by the House in December does not include an amnesty.
Last week, we asked all 55 Republican senators (via their press secretaries): Will you rule out voting this year for an immigration reform bill that converts illegal immigrants to legal guest workers without making them return to their home countries first?
Most did not answer our question, but several senators did respond. We intend to keep asking. You can, too, by using the contact information below.
Sen. George Allen (R.-Va.) answered that he would not rule out legalizing illegals.

Based on this, I'd say that George Allen is not the sort of conservative that we need to nominate in 2008, and that if he was to be nominated, I would not vote for him.

I'd rather have Alan Keyes, but I could support Allen. Definitely take him over McGuiliani.

I guess I haven't heard that Allen is running. On the other hand, I haven't yet heard that McCain or clinton are running. So....
A. I hope he is running, and
B. He is the one guy on the Republican side I have seen to date that I...
1. could happily support, and
2. have actively and in speech pulled for for at least a year.
I am secretary of our Senate District (BPOU) Committee, so am a tiny cog in the machine. I live in Minnesota, so Allen has caught the attention of at least one guy who lives far from his home state.

He's my favorite of the "realistic" candidates. Tancredo obviously is not going to be elected.

Something we've been hearing is that another former Virginia Governor, Dumbocrap Mark Warner plans to run for President as well. Would be interesting, two former Virginia Governors in the Presidential race.
BTW, Virginia is the birthplace of eight Presidents, more than any other state.
George Washington
Thomas Jefferson
James Madison
James Monroe
William Henry Harrison
John Tyler
Zachary Taylor
Woodrow Wilson
Can we make it nine? Hopefully with Allen.

"Legal immigration has been and continues to be the life blood of our nation; my mother legally immigrated to America. Unfortunately, illegal immigration is one of the biggest problems affecting our country today and it is undermining our economic and physical security. I believe that, first and foremost, we need to secure our borders. We need more border agents and detention centers along the border and we ought to be using technology, such as unmanned aerial vehicles, to help with surveillance. Secondly, we must not reward illegal behavior; rewarding illegal behavior will only encourage more illegal actions."Very general and nebulous, not at all vote-stimulating.

Allen is a former Governor, speaks well, has a good smile and is genuinely likable. That goes a long ways in running for the Presidency. Whether I would support him depends on what other Republicans are running. Politics is about comparative choices.

I read that he supports mandatory trigger locks on all 'legally owned' guns...

My favorite George Allen quote:
Lets enjoy knocking their soft teeth down their whiny throats.
(He was speaking of democrats).
To: HHKrepublican_2
From what I've seen of Allen (which I admit is very little) he's not the most stimulating person in the room.
He may very well be a great president, but he doesn't seem like that dynamic of a campaigner (at least not yet). I personally think he's going to get trounced in the primaries.

I really hope he runs and wins. That wife of his would make a BEAUTIFUL first lady and probably the most incredibly beautiful first lady in history. It sure does help that he is conservative too....LOL.
