DURHAM, N.C. -- A small group of boosters and others close to the Duke University lacrosse team has hired President Clinton's former lawyer as part of an aggressive public relations effort to argue that the players did not sexually assault a woman at an off-campus party.
Bob Bennett, a former federal prosecutor and Washington attorney who represented Clinton in the Paula Jones sexual harassment case, is serving as a spokesman for a group calling itself the Committee for Fairness to Duke Families.

Isn't Bennett the most expensive lawyer in D.C.?
If this isn't an admission of guilt I don't know what it.
And I thought those guys were innocent.
Why don't they sue the dancer for everything she's got?
Apparently, Mark Geragos and David Kendall were unavailable.
Does this rehabilitate Uncle Bob or should I now reconsider my opinion that the fellas have been charged unfairly, considering the DNA negatives coming back?
They reportedly paid the two "dancers" $800. College students must have a lot more money than when I was in school and felt wealthy if I could afford a $1.50 pizza. It certainly is proving to be the most expensive waste of money they could possibly have spent.
Did he once represent Caspar Weinberger? I just found this 1995 article. Will read later:
Robert S. Bennett is currently a partner with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. A 1964 graduate of the Georgetown Law Center, Bennett served as assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia (1967-1970) before venturing into private practice, where he established himself as one of the nation's preeminent trial attorneys. In addition to an impressive list of corporate clients, Bennett serves as President Clinton's personal attorney, and he recently represented former Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger in the Iran-Contra matter.

They attend Duke. They can AFFORD HIM.
felt wealthy if I could afford a $1.50 pizza - I remember writing a $10 check for cash and feeling rich.
Just because they hired Bob Bennett doesn't mean they're guilty. It just means somebody's daddy has enough money to afford to pay for a high-profile defense attorney.
The DA has signaled he's ready to go to the mattresses over this case, and those boys need to be ready for a messy, highly-publicized, nationwide case, with racial and class sensitivities and 'activists' involved pushing this case. They need someone with a good record of defending their clients (both innocent and guilty) and someone used to media frenzy.
This DA will not know what him when he is all through. Duke produces some of the county's best lawyers and has some of the finest professors on their teaching staff, compared to almost any other law school in the country. Duke has a reputation to maintain and they will not let this two-bits DA drag their university's good name through the mud as he has done.

There are usually one or two kids in any group who have their own money.
Are you out of your mind???? The DA stated that even tho the results of the DNA tests on the 3 students alleged to have been involved in the rape proved negative, 75% of all assaults can not be substantiated by DNA.
If the alleged assault was allegedly committed by 3 individuals, then by his own admission, ONE OF THEM SHOULD HAVE TESTED POSITIVE! AND THEY DID NOT!!!!!
And you sit here and try to tell the rest of us that by hiring an attorney to fight this obvious case of societal extortion is an admission of guilt????
You're on the wrong forum pal!
It was more of a Clinton joke than anything else.
You must be guilty if you hire a known rapist's lawyer to defend you......
Go pee on someone else's leg.
Bob "President Clinton's former lawyer " Bennett...
Well, lie down with dogs etc.
bttt
Tongue in cheek. (Clinton being a sex offender and all.....)
