Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site. We fight for conservative principles, values and causes. We defend the Constitution. We defend our borders. We defend our God-given rights. We are opposed to the liberal/socialist/Marxist agenda for America. We do not willingly give up ground to the Marxists.

It's true that the illegal immigration issue is very discouraging, and I don't know if anyone has a solution that will appeal to conservatives and yet manage to get by Democrat obstructionism, ie, a filibuster, but I don't see that as any reason to give up everything. We should not allow it to rip us apart and destroy the movement. We fight on.

We hold the majority. We continue working as hard as we possibly can to elect as many conservatives as we possibly can. We build a conservative majority that can overcome the Democrats and the RINOs. We do not willingly give up any seats to Democrats. We add seats. Preferably, conservative seats.

I would also like to remind everyone, that Free Republic does not condone racism and does not advocate violence. We exercise our first amendment rights to free speech and peaceable assembly. We do not condemn people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, skin color, etc. We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government. We do not advocate shooting illegals or mining the borders. We do not appreciate people coming across our borders illegally, but as conservatives, we do not issue racial epithets or threaten them with violence or bodily harm.

And, yes, we are at war. And we do support our troops and their mission. We also respect our commander-in-chief and are mindful that when people disrespect him, it hurts troop morale. We do not appreciate the mainstream media's attempts to destroy America's will to fight and we do not do anything to assist the Democrats and their accomplices in the media in their treasonous mission of undermining the war effort by providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

And despite our dissatisfaction and disappointments in regards to the illegal immigration issue, we recognize that it is not the last issue on earth and there are plenty of other reasons not to allow the Marxist Democrats to retake power.

I'll list a few issues (by no means and exhaustive list) that will be adversely affected by Marxist/Democrats in power:

Islamofascism/terrorism
National Security/Defense
The United Nations (as in their control over us)
The Supreme Court
The federal judiciary
The legislative agenda
The right to life
Marriage between one man, one woman
The family
Education
Health care
Private property
Taxation
Oil/energy
The right to keep and bear arms
The right to freedom of religion
The right to self-governance
All of our God-given rights
The Constitution
The Republic
Liberty itself

Do not get so discouraged that we give it all up. It could take generations to get it back. If ever.

"Securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" is our duty.

..you must really be miserable in that the party of Reagan heretofore has had the Religious Right as its heart.

If your ilk, the libertines, liberterians, RINOs and everybody else who considers themselves Republicans are successful in driving religious people from the party--you will be left with Democratic government and you will be twisting in the wind...

The very idea that human beings have individual rights not subject to the whims of an earthly monarch, but subject to the laws of Yahweh, is directly from Moses.

Mosaic Law (of which the Ten Commandments is just a part) is the foundation of Western Civilization. Genesis is the primary focus of the Declaration of Independence, from where our Constitutional rights are derived.

“We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights...”

“We, therefore, the Representativers of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the World for the Rectitude of our intentions,...”

The Ten Commandments are the foundation of our judicial system.

(P.S. John Locke got most of his stuff from Thomas Hobbes, as did Ayn Rand.)

Any idea of exactly how many States have actually implemented NCLB so far?

Has any State been under NCLB long enough yet to see if there are any meaningful results?

You don't think that people can use reason rather than blind luck or chance to conjure up a set of tribal lays that lead to a better life for most?

There is a fine line between hate and being stern. Just look at the Terri threads. Some were banned just for stating their stance on an issue. Not good.

I read an article in the statewide paper here (Billings Gazette) last Spring saying that 12 Montana schools made the failing schools list. Two were schools on the indian reservations, and the others were in the larger cities in Montana. 30 other schools across the state nearly landed on the list.

Don't worry about your local agribusiness. If there aren't enough illegals to hire, farmers have plenty of other options. They can plant crops that can be harvested mechanically. Or they can sell their land to Hutterite or Amish farmers.

I sense that both you and WalterSkinner feel threatened by those with opposing views.

The Religious Right feels it is under attack and subject to a lot of outright persecution lately, like holding certain Bible based beliefs makes you automatically a committer of hate crimes and ineligible for forming campus clubs or helping the drug addicted or being appointed to a judgeship.

And atheists fear the establishment of a religious test for laws that govern their lives. The example of the Christian convert in Afghanistan being threatened with beheading is not a ringing endorsement for a theocracy.
