Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site

Posted on 04/11/2006 3:33:35 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site. We fight for conservative principles, values and causes. We defend the Constitution. We defend our borders. We defend our God-given rights. We are opposed to the liberal/socialist/Marxist agenda for America. We do not willingly give up ground to the Marxists.

It's true that the illegal immigration issue is very discouraging, and I don't know if anyone has a solution that will appeal to conservatives and yet manage to get by Democrat obstructionism, ie, a filibuster, but I don't see that as any reason to give up everything. We should not allow it to rip us apart and destroy the movement. We fight on.

We hold the majority. We continue working as hard as we possibly can to elect as many conservatives as we possibly can. We build a conservative majority that can overcome the Democrats and the RINOs. We do not willingly give up any seats to Democrats. We add seats. Preferably, conservative seats.

I would also like to remind everyone, that Free Republic does not condone racism and does not advocate violence. We exercise our first amendment rights to free speech and peaceable assembly. We do not condemn people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, skin color, etc. We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government. We do not advocate shooting illegals or mining the borders. We do not appreciate people coming across our borders illegally, but as conservatives, we do not issue racial epithets or threaten them with violence or bodily harm.

And, yes, we are at war. And we do support our troops and their mission. We also respect our commander-in-chief and are mindful that when people disrespect him, it hurts troop morale. We do not appreciate the mainstream media's attempts to destroy America's will to fight and we do not do anything to assist the Democrats and their accomplices in the media in their treasonous mission of undermining the war effort by providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

And despite our dissatisfaction and disappointments in regards to the illegal immigration issue, we recognize that it is not the last issue on earth and there are plenty of other reasons not to allow the Marxist Democrats to retake power.

I'll list a few issues (by no means and exhaustive list) that will be adversely affected by Marxist/Democrats in power:

Islamofascism/terrorism
National Security/Defense
The United Nations (as in their control over us)
The Supreme Court
The federal judiciary
The legislative agenda
The right to life
Marriage between one man, one woman
The family
Education
Health care
Private property
Taxation
Oil/energy
The right to keep and bear arms
The right to freedom of religion
The right to self-governance
All of our God-given rights
The Constitution
The Republic
Liberty itself

Do not get so discouraged that we give it all up. It could take generations to get it back. If ever.

"Securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" is our duty.

I haven't been disagreeing with you at all, I been pointing out my point of view.

Well when you've start a post saying "I disagree....," you're disagreeing with what I've said. We're merely arriving at the same end from different directions.

I will never be ashamed that I voted for Perot, Twice.

I'm not ashamed to admit I voted for Dole. I voted for Bush in 1992 because Perot dropped out of the race, even though he was the front runner in the polls. Later to jump back in, but by that time, his candidacy was weakened. Perot alleged that Bush operatives had threatened to besmirch the reputation of his family by disseminating a fake, computer-generated photograph of his daughter and even disrupting her wedding. That charge was characterized later as false, because evidence of such a photograph didn't even exist. Perot was widely derided as "kooky" and "delusional," those labels stuck, to the point where the Perot-as-lunatic storyline is now accepted history.

It is difficult to explain this to psudo conservatives but here it goes.
1. The media & major Papers - Liberal
2. School systems - Liberal
3. Congress is about 50 - 50 Lib - Conserv.
4. Other agencies in the Gov. have Clinton holdovers
5. the list can go on and on

Bush can only deal to a point. He is not emperor
ramming through issues.
He has to deal with the above list. Many time there has to be a quid pro quo.
Don't cut off your nose to spite your face

Interesting enough illegal immigration directly or indirectly connects or has a relationship to many of the subjects on your list:

Islamofascism/terrorism

National Security/Defense

The United Nations (as in their control over us)

The Supreme Court

The federal judiciary

The legislative agenda

The family

Education

Health care

Private property

Taxation

The right to self-governance

All of our God-given rights

The Constitution

The Republic

Liberty itself

That being said....I understand your meaning, and your post.

Thanks Jim..for Free Republic.

FRegards,

I haven't looked into it. I have visited the Czech Republic.

Former Communist nations are among those that understand the failures of that system.

I visited SF for the first (only?) time this year. US college educated radicals were protesting on behalf of communism and Chinese refugees had set up tables in the street to bring attention on the horrors of Communism.

It wasn't the MSM, it was the TAX BILL everyone received. BTW I voted for him twice.

He also looked sickly and lethargic at that time and did have some chronic health problems. People prefer to vote for candidates full of vitality, who appear to be able to live through the term.

Jim, I would love to agree, however... on a majority of the topics in your list we are going in the wrong direction with the GOP at the reins. We need a mechanism to correct their excesses and wild lurch into socialism.

This type of voting (win at any cost) is antithetical to your statement of purpose for this great website.

It's not "win at any cost". It's being realistic and not assuming that you can win every battle. Some battles, you're going to lose. Your mentality seems to be that if we can't win every battle, its best just to give up completely. Lucky you weren't advising Washington at Valley Forge.

It totally upsets me that yellow dog voters no longer just reside the party of jackasses. If we keep voting for the party (at any cost) and not for the principles,

No, we're still voting for our principles. I vote for conservative Republicans every chance I get in the primaries. But if that guy loses, and I get a RINO like DeWine, I'm still going to vote for him because my principle suffers more if some liberal Democrat gets in office. DeWine will do less damage, and maybe a better conservative candidate will get in next time. And when that conservative eventually does get in office, they'll be less liberalism for him to undo.

Plus, with things like Supreme Court justices getting lifetime appointments, sitting out an election in a snit because your preferred conservative didn't make it does no good. Dubya isn't really a conservative, but the positive legacy of his Supreme Court appointments will last for decades, and, if he gets to make one more, may fundamentally reshape the Constitutional landscape. Had Kerry won, he'd likely have solidified a liberal majority on the Supreme Court for years.

if we do not stand up and DEMAND GOP candidates that support the conservative values and causes, then we will reap what we have sown, and it won't be good.

DEMANDing isn't likely to get us anything. Voting and working for a preferred candidate in the primary is the way to go. Not sitting out and letting some Democratic who is committed to destroying my principles get in office instead.

Actually, I have no doubt as to what the UN's goal is. My confusion is to what side Bush comes down on those goals.

That says it all right there. We should not be one-issue people. We can't lose track of the main focus- Keeping America safe, upholding traditional values and freedom of religion. If the Democrats take control, we could lose all of that.

"The problem is that too many FReepers refuse to look at the immigration issue in a reasonable, thoughtful manner. They refuse to take into account the economic impact that displacing a workforce will cause. They also refuse acknowledge that by harping on illegal immigration, they're helping to undo gains among Hispanics that the GOP has made."

You solved your own case when you said "ILLEGAL immigrants".

The leftist politicians want amnesty for them to continue filling the tax coffers so they can continue their endless summer of spending.

The leftist politicians want this to show appeasement to the illegals to gain more votes (pandering).

The leftist politicians should be charged with aiding and abetting criminal activity and punished thusly.

Immigration is fine when approached as prescribed by law, but when the first act you achieve on American soil is a crime (illegal entry), we do not want to invite you into our society.

Where has common sense and logical thought gone!!!???

Gee I did say that didn't I, OK.

I disagree with the premise that Newt acted on his lonesome and that he didn't seize upon what Perot had seen in his view of the body public.

Perot saw a discontent public and seized upon the opportunity to make a change.

Newt saw just how much support Perot had ganders and sought to tap into it and did so successfully.

Now if you want to say that he did no such thing and was incapable of doing so go right ahead, It would seem I'm giving Newt more credit as a political strategist then you are.

The Marxists and the Democrats are salivating over amnesty to illegals, but very few Republicans (including GWB) are standing up to them, or even listening to the majority of citizens.

How can we "secure the blessings of liberty" to our descendants if we refuse to secure our borders? It may or may not be the "last issue," but it is a fundamental one.

Just my 2 cents.

This theory keeps turning up like the proverbial bad penny. IMHO it is more appropriate to Usenet, specifically alt.history.what-if.

I believe more likely Republican voters Voted for Perot than likely dem voters. Perot wasn't pandering for votes i.e. welfare, union members etc.
