Jesus ice walker?

he New Testament story describes Jesus walking on water in the Sea of Galilee but according to a study led by Florida State University Professor of Oceanography Doron Nof, it's more likely that he walked on an isolated patch of floating ice.

The study points to a rare combination of optimal water and atmospheric conditions for development of a unique, localized freezing phenomenon that Nof and his co-authors call "springs ice."

In what is now northern Israel, such ice could have formed on the cold freshwater surface of the Sea of Galilee -- known as Lake Kinneret by modern-day Israelis -- when already chilly temperatures briefly plummeted during one of the two protracted cold periods between 2,500 and 1,500 years ago.

A frozen patch floating on the surface of the small lake would have been difficult to distinguish from the unfrozen water surrounding it. The unfrozen water was comprised of the plumes resulting from salty springs situated along the lake's western shore in Tabgha -- an area where many archeological findings related to Jesus have been documented.

"As natural scientists, we simply explain that unique freezing processes probably happened in that region only a handful of times during the last 12,000 years," Nof said. "We leave to others the question of whether or not our research explains the biblical account."

It isn't the first time the FSU researcher has offered scientific explanations of watery miracles. As a recognized expert in the field of oceanography and limnology -- the study of freshwater, saline and brackish environments -- Nof made waves worldwide in 1992 with his oceanographic perspective on the parting of the Red Sea.

His latest research appears in the April 2006 Journal of Paleolimnology, a scientific publication that addresses the reconstruction of lake history.

Using paleoceanographic records of the Mediterranean Sea's surface temperatures along with analytical ice and statistical models, Nof and his colleagues focused on the dynamics of a small section of Lake Kinneret comprising about 10,000 square feet near the salty springs that empty into it. Their analysis supports the likelihood that a brief blast of frigid air descended over the lake and dropped to 25 F (-4 C) for at least two days, coinciding with the chill that had already settled in for a century or more and quite possibly encompassed the decades in which Jesus lived.

My bible states that all scripture is given of God.

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's also was.
10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
2 Timothy 4

Watched ABC's pitiful remake of the "10 Commandments",

I saw a few minutes of it last night, only because I thought it was the original when I turned over. Talk about slop, the only worse attempt I can remember was the Noah's Ark remake fiasco. Trying to slip their humanism in at every angle by making up (really really bad) dialog to throw some blame back at God and Moses.

Note how all these attacks on Jesus come out every year, just before Easter.

Theology from
oceanographers makes sense . . .
So, in the same vein,

I hope that the press
will ask these guys what they think
about String Theory . . .

Wow! How lucky was Jesus that this ice was in the right spot at the right time for him to pull off another one of his "miracles" that helped him with the diabolical ruse that he was the Son of God ... a ruse that led to his torture and death ...

I'm not even going to bother with the sarcasm tag because God knows sarcasm, even when he reads it on FreeRepublic.

The reasonng process is this:

A. Miracles can't happen (nature is all there is).......

B. But we love these cute stories.....

C. Therefore...let's make up something, anything, even if it's less believable than the miracle itself.

Peter got out of the boat and walked too. That would mean that he lied and knew it - no one can tell me that this experienced fisherman would be unable to tell he was stepping out on ice. Then, in later years, he allowed himself to be crucified upside down for a man he knew not to be Christ. This is just one meager example of how implausable this explaination is, and there are more.

Plenty of people have decided against Jesus Christ; that is their God given right. But this type of silly transparent reasoning in order to provide an avenue of doubt for the dull and ignorant is pathetic.

WWJW? = What Would Jesus Wear?

Why, He'd wear Vibrum Brand Soles... When you need to traverse slippery ice during stormy seas there is no better friend to you than Vibrum Brand Boot Soles. The sure footing will keep you on the straight and narrow SAFE path!

Vibrum brand... the soles that SAVE!

I smell a new advertising campaign (it's either that or the farmers are spreading in the fields today - but it's one of those two, fer sure!)

BTW a lake cannot freeze thick enough ice during one night.

That is why I included this:
2. Jesus walked out to the boat “during the 4th watch of the night” – not enough time for the lake to freeze enough to walk on.

"...that unique freezing processes probably happened in that region only a handful of times during the last 12,000 years," Nof said."

...as if THAT settles it! Well...at least he said eNof to show lunacy.

*sheesh*

Don't know if it was Nof or the idiot reporter who took "a handful of times in 12,000 years" to mean "most likely".

A frozen patch floating on the surface of the small lake would have been difficult to distinguish from the unfrozen water surrounding it.

Which would make it a pretty foolish thing to try and walk on it for any distance.
