The house is forced to act for it's constituents because of their short-terms, and their direct answering to a district. I wish we could get rid of the 17th amendment and have our Senator answer to us.
Federalism...where are you?
I wonder how much the defeat of the Senate proposal can be attributed to the backlash from the Mexican-flag-waving-illegal-immigrant protests? I know I was outraged, and sent e-mails to my senators (Bonehead Boxer and Dipsy DiFi - yeah; aren't I lucky?), and wonder how many others did, too.
I sent an email to Sam Farr, my congress critter, becuase Boxer and Feinstien are deaf and so are the leftist college students working in their offices.
I truly believe that any email that hits their inbox which doesn't fit a certain world view according to assistant "Suzie Socialist from Berkely" will never be counted, nor seen by either one of those Senators before it gets deleted. Not that they would've cared anyway.
On the other hand, Sam Farr needs every vote he can muster here in Monterey. He's not in a completely safe seat. He has to listen.
Notice that every critter I have voting power over are all Dems. A pity. It's like yelling in a sand pit.
"(Don't they know they won't even be voting in November?)" ??????
What, doesn't he know they are already voting?
Doesn't he know the invaders are instructed in how to register, and directed on how to vote, from offices set up on U.S. soil and controlled from Mexico?
One of the items missing from the whole "immigration reform" (Illegal entry is NOT immigration!) is any mention of enforcing the laws against non-citizens VOTING!
ping
And I have Dodd and Liebermna. I e-mailed Lieberman and he responded by saying he gives full support for the McCain-Kennedy bill. It's disgusting. The people here in Connecticut think Lieberman is a demi-god and it's impossible to touch him politically. Stupid socialist sheeple here in CT can't see the damage this issue is doing to our country.
Anything else would be nothing more than election year grandstanding and Republicans trying to cover their collective rear ends.
First of all have strong tough legislation to put armed guards on the southern border with an electrified fence.
Than do not allow the liberal sucking illegals to continue to take our streets hostage every weekend unless you round them all up, fingerprint them , get IRS to get back taxes and ICE to arrest and deport!
Than deal with the 10-20 million here and their anchorbrats, and get them to the border and tell them if they return they are thrown in federal prison, than maybe the world will see us as the super power we are and take us seriously!
As far as the Senate is concerned, We ought to be glad partisan politics prevailed. Otherwise one of these silly bills would be headed to the House.
Illegal isn't illegal anymore either.
Irregardless of how productive these people are, how long they have been here, or how many there are of them, they broke the laws of our country which we as citizens are obliged to abide by.
If amnesty is bestowed upon them, I can envision legal action for murderer's, thugs, tax evaders, and jaywalkers to file for the same type of amnesty.
I know how you feel.
I am in Massachusetts.
How would you like Kennedy, Kerry and Delahunt.
The Moe, Larry and Curly of our govt, except M,L,&C gave us a few laughs, K,K &D make me cry.
The Most Significant Lobbying in this Illegal Immigration Problem is the Catholic Church which states unequivocally that all of these illegal aliens have the following RIGHTS. There are no statements about RESPONSIBILITIES in obeying the laws of the countries that they go to.
As a Catholic, I am really disapointed by their arrogance and attitude.
The following is LOBBYING POSITION OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION:
=====Catholic Social Teachings
All persons have the right to find in their own countries the economic, political, and social opportunities to live in dignity and achieve a full life through the use of their God-given gifts. In this context, work that provides a just, living wage is a basic human need. (Page 15, Paragraph 34)
The Church recognizes the right of sovereign nations to control their territories but rejects such control when it is exerted merely for the purpose of acquiring additional wealth. More powerful economic nations, which have the ability to protect and feed their residents, have a stronger obligation to accommodate migration flows. (Page 15, Paragraph 36)
The Church recognizes that all goods of the earth belong to all people. When persons cannot find employment in their country of origin to support themselves and their families, they have a right to find work elsewhere in order to survive. Sovereign nations should provide ways to accommodate this right. (Page 15, Paragraph 35)
Those who flee wars and persecution should be protected by the global community. This requires, at a minimum, that migrants have a right to claim refugee status without incarceration and to have their claims fully considered by a competent authority. (Page 16, Paragraph 37)
Regardless of their legal status, migrants, like all persons, possess inherent human dignity which should be respected. Government policies that respect the basic human rights of the undocumented are necessary. (Page 16, Paragraph 38)
That Amendment was one of the biggest mistakes we ever made as a nation.
These bozos should be answering to their respective State Legislatures. Instead, they're answering to nobody except their own egos as they are effectively elected for life.
They are our very own House Of Lords which the Founding Fathers never envisioned and were wise enough not to give us. In their hasty, populist stupidity, our great grandfathers reversed the wisdom of these men who were much greater and wiser than they. We should eliminate this like the Prohibition Amendment was eliminated.
I'm sure those protests helped kill the "slam-dunk" that was expected in the Senate. Personally, I was offended that that many mexican nationals could "afford" to keep taking the days off from work and school while I stayed at work and kept funding their benefits.
Were there any parables about working six days a week and giving it all to the lazy?
Good job, FRiend. I have been saying over and over, that the nitwit Dems and RiNO's are the ones we need to be putting the most heat on with the phone calls. PHONE CALLS are much better than emails, BTW.
