Illegals: House vs. Senate
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | Saturday, April 8, 2006 | Kevin McCullough

Posted on 04/08/2006 12:30:57 AM PDT by JohnHuang2

The citizens of the United States of America finally have the U.S. Senate on the record regarding illegal immigration and the state of where we are at in 2006. Unlike the bill put forward and passed by the U.S. House of Representatives – the Senate bill does nothing to increase American safety or border security, nor to strengthen our efforts in the War on Terror.

No, the U.S. Senate decided to play footsy with those who show no respect for the laws of our nation. And the bill they have put forward punishes law-abiding Americans, while making it possible for lawbreaking Mexicans, Arabs, and others to find a way to skirt the laws of our nation and be rewarded for it.

In the House debate, there was at least an acknowledgement from the members – race-baiting Cynthia McKinney aside – that the War on Terror is real and our nation's security is of extreme importance. In the Senate, the voices that wished to address this war were shouted down by those who are pandering for votes to preserve their survival in the election of 2006.

Is it any wonder that the American people have forgotten 9-11? I mean why should the American people be vigilant about national security when the best that our U.S. senators can come up with is, "Let's protect the hard-working people," who violate our sovereignty, spit on our laws, and mock our justice system?

OK, I guess mocking our justice system is more of an uncontrollable reaction rather than a sign of disrespect, but there was a day when we called ourselves a nation of laws.

And another thing ... stop telling me how hard working the illegal aliens are who are in our nation. BIG, STUPID DEAL!

Being hard working is what my grandfathers were going back generations on both sides of my family tree. I work hard every single day, and my learning-disabled son – who is a legal immigrant and naturalized U.S. citizen from Central America presently works three jobs. Hard work is the basic requirement of success for an American – not a point of praise that allows a person who has broken our law to become enshrined as a national hero. Hard work is the minimum, not the end all. And it's something I wish the U.S. Senate would learn more about.

There were two parts of the Senate bill that are worth applauding.

The first is to deport every illegal here who has been here less than two years. But since we are not presently enforcing our other immigration laws, what gives me any hope that this will be enforced?

The second part is that it requires those who have been here between 2 to 5 years to return to a U.S. port of entry and apply officially for the work visa they seek. Hey, I didn't say it was earth-shattering, but making them step one foot back outside the United States before they apply is something.

The third sad part to the Senate bill is to allow those who have been gainfully employed for five years or more to apply for immediate citizenship. So even though every one of the senators told the American people that amnesty would "never be offered," this was, in fact, exactly what they got.

When it goes to the compromise committee between the House and Senate, I expect the fireworks to fly. I hope that the compromise team will allow the final bill to keep the tough border-security language of the House bill. I also hope that they will add some conditions to the "5 years plus" section of the Senate bill – like requiring the person applying to have no criminal record, and to be already current on their tax status. That means that the nearly one-third of felons sitting in our prisons nationwide – who are not U.S. citizens – will never be eligible.

What shape the bill takes coming out of the compromise will be the true test.

The House of Representatives is acting like Americans are rightfully worried about national security and they were sent to Washington to do something about it. The U.S. Senate is acting like the only people who live in America are illegal aliens. (Don't they know they won't even be voting in November?)

Let's hope against hope that serious men, will decide this deadly issue, on behalf of what is best for the future of America.

And while they do what we sent them to Washington to do, we hard-working American citizens will be doing our jobs, and voting our conscience when we ask ourselves the question at the ballot box this November on who is working hardest to keep America safe.

Enough from me for now, my job starts at 5 a.m. tomorrow.

The house is forced to act for it's constituents because of their short-terms, and their direct answering to a district. I wish we could get rid of the 17th amendment and have our Senator answer to us.

Federalism...where are you?

I wonder how much the defeat of the Senate proposal can be attributed to the backlash from the Mexican-flag-waving-illegal-immigrant protests? I know I was outraged, and sent e-mails to my senators (Bonehead Boxer and Dipsy DiFi - yeah; aren't I lucky?), and wonder how many others did, too.

I sent an email to Sam Farr, my congress critter, becuase Boxer and Feinstien are deaf and so are the leftist college students working in their offices.

I truly believe that any email that hits their inbox which doesn't fit a certain world view according to assistant "Suzie Socialist from Berkely" will never be counted, nor seen by either one of those Senators before it gets deleted. Not that they would've cared anyway.

On the other hand, Sam Farr needs every vote he can muster here in Monterey. He's not in a completely safe seat. He has to listen.

Notice that every critter I have voting power over are all Dems. A pity. It's like yelling in a sand pit.

"(Don't they know they won't even be voting in November?)" ??????

What, doesn't he know they are already voting?
Doesn't he know the invaders are instructed in how to register, and directed on how to vote, from offices set up on U.S. soil and controlled from Mexico?

One of the items missing from the whole "immigration reform" (Illegal entry is NOT immigration!) is any mention of enforcing the laws against non-citizens VOTING!

Are you poor people still stuck with Farr? I woulda' thought he would have been put out to pasture by now.

He was a weenie 30 years ago and I assume he still is. The guy always seemed to be in some alternate dimensional harmonic universe.

And I have Dodd and Liebermna. I e-mailed Lieberman and he responded by saying he gives full support for the McCain-Kennedy bill. It's disgusting. The people here in Connecticut think Lieberman is a demi-god and it's impossible to touch him politically. Stupid socialist sheeple here in CT can't see the damage this issue is doing to our country.

The only immigration bill that would be acceptable to me is a "new resolution" calling for a re-commitment to enforcement of immigration laws already in place, or an enhancement of these laws.

Anything else would be nothing more than election year grandstanding and Republicans trying to cover their collective rear ends.

First of all have strong tough legislation to put armed guards on the southern border with an electrified fence.

Than do not allow the liberal sucking illegals to continue to take our streets hostage every weekend unless you round them all up, fingerprint them , get IRS to get back taxes and ICE to arrest and deport!

Than deal with the 10-20 million here and their anchorbrats, and get them to the border and tell them if they return they are thrown in federal prison, than maybe the world will see us as the super power we are and take us seriously!

As far as the Senate is concerned, We ought to be glad partisan politics prevailed. Otherwise one of these silly bills would be headed to the House.

Illegal isn't illegal anymore either.

Irregardless of how productive these people are, how long they have been here, or how many there are of them, they broke the laws of our country which we as citizens are obliged to abide by.

If amnesty is bestowed upon them, I can envision legal action for murderer's, thugs, tax evaders, and jaywalkers to file for the same type of amnesty.

What is really scary is the fact the Dem's weren't afraid to attach outlandish amendments. They know Dubya will sign it!

The Most Significant Lobbying in this Illegal Immigration Problem is the Catholic Church which states unequivocally that all of these illegal aliens have the following RIGHTS. There are no statements about RESPONSIBILITIES in obeying the laws of the countries that they go to.

As a Catholic, I am really disapointed by their arrogance and attitude.

The following is LOBBYING POSITION OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION:

=====Catholic Social Teachings

All persons have the right to find in their own countries the economic, political, and social opportunities to live in dignity and achieve a full life through the use of their God-given gifts. In this context, work that provides a just, living wage is a basic human need. (Page 15, Paragraph 34)

The Church recognizes the right of sovereign nations to control their territories but rejects such control when it is exerted merely for the purpose of acquiring additional wealth. More powerful economic nations, which have the ability to protect and feed their residents, have a stronger obligation to accommodate migration flows. (Page 15, Paragraph 36)

The Church recognizes that all goods of the earth belong to all people. When persons cannot find employment in their country of origin to support themselves and their families, they have a right to find work elsewhere in order to survive. Sovereign nations should provide ways to accommodate this right. (Page 15, Paragraph 35)

Those who flee wars and persecution should be protected by the global community. This requires, at a minimum, that migrants have a right to claim refugee status without incarceration and to have their claims fully considered by a competent authority. (Page 16, Paragraph 37)

Regardless of their legal status, migrants, like all persons, possess inherent human dignity which should be respected. Government policies that respect the basic human rights of the undocumented are necessary. (Page 16, Paragraph 38)

Does the Laws and the Constitution of the USA mean anything?

I wish we could get rid of the 17th amendment and have our Senator answer to us.

That Amendment was one of the biggest mistakes we ever made as a nation.

These bozos should be answering to their respective State Legislatures. Instead, they're answering to nobody except their own egos as they are effectively elected for life.

They are our very own House Of Lords which the Founding Fathers never envisioned and were wise enough not to give us. In their hasty, populist stupidity, our great grandfathers reversed the wisdom of these men who were much greater and wiser than they. We should eliminate this like the Prohibition Amendment was eliminated.

I sent emails to Snowe and Collins months ago. I received a reply in the mail. I signed the petitions online, called my representatives and urged family and friends to sign and pass on the petitions to their friends. We did good! But it's not over. They'll be back in 2 weeks. The fight's not over. Our voices were heard. Undoubtfully, they'll have to hear our voices again.

I'm sure those protests helped kill the "slam-dunk" that was expected in the Senate. Personally, I was offended that that many mexican nationals could "afford" to keep taking the days off from work and school while I stayed at work and kept funding their benefits.

The Roman Catholic Church has long been at its best and numerically strongest in Communist East Europe.Somehow, I don'T think stealing other peiople's work through gov't for the benefit of criminals is what Jesus had in mind.

Were there any parables about working six days a week and giving it all to the lazy?

Good job, FRiend. I have been saying over and over, that the nitwit Dems and RiNO's are the ones we need to be putting the most heat on with the phone calls. PHONE CALLS are much better than emails, BTW.
