Just breaking - explosion in a coffee shop in downtown Toronto, Canada.
Reporter just talked about some sort of explosives strapped to a guy and explosion occured in a busy district of the city.

Too bad 1/2 of our countrymen don't get the point you just made. Same for most of the rest of the West, but their catching on quickly. Too bad it has to be such a costly lesson in terms of lives to get your point.

Natural gas will actually explode -- we investigated an arson case one time where a fellow disconnected the gas line and let the house fill up with gas. When the gas reached the pilot light on the stove, the whole place went up in an explosion so powerful that it blew all the doors and window frames about 20 feet out into the yard.
But I never heard of that happening with a gasoline-fueled arson. Gasoline goes "WHOOOSH!" when it goes up. Natural gas goes "BOOM!"

You could see gas leaking if it were hissing out of a loose meter connection - you wouldn't really "see" it - you would hear it and smell it, but I could "see" somebody using this phrase . . .
If it was indeed natural gas, this all may make more sense. If the guy in the washroom lit a cigarette, and the leak was at the hot water heater, there's your flame source.
Heresay? Hardly ... just sound deductive reasoning (on my part at least) bolstered by uncanny insight developed over a number of years as a participant in this forum.

Explosives do burn readily if they are not set off by a compression wave. I suspect this guy had a hot chile rellino dinner with refried beans the night before and dropped his ciggie in the throne below him while he was working it out:)
