From now on, I think WW2 kamakazi pilots should be referred to as "homicide pilots." Why just describe what happened? Isn't it the media's job to "apply stigma"? Yeah, that makes sense. See, I'm too dumb to read facts and apply my own stigma. I need the media to use retarded, emotional appeals to provide me the emotional cues I need to feel the way I am supposed to feel about a story.

...this doesn't fit the typical pattern of a homicide bomber .. they seem to like to be in the middle of a crowd, and when the explosives go off, it's so vast

The explosive most often used is TATP (Triacetone Triperoxide) and it is extremely sensitive to impact, friction, even temperature change (called "Mother of Satan" because of its tendency to detonate prematurely). This bomber might have been using the bathroom as a staging area and accidently bumped his belt against the sink or wall.

Here is a great link for understanding this explosive... Global Security - TATP

Man dead after shooting at Tim Hortons

Did I miss something? Where in the article does it mention anything about a shooting?

You are a complete and utter maroon.

Homicide bombing refers to the intent to kill innocents.

Suicide bombing implies nothing more than the intent to self-annihilate.

FoxNews has it exactly right - you, exactly wrong.

I said it's the RIGHT's politically correct phrase. Normally, PC is the domain of the left, but this term homicide bomber is a totally political phrase. Even its suppporters here say it's intent is to apply stigma. As if I can't just read facts and know how to feel about them on my own. The entire reason for using the stupid phrase is political. That's why I say it's a form of politically correct speech. Because it is. It's definitely LESS descriptive than suicide bomber.

It will be interesting to learn what this poor man was fighting back against.

My notion of fighting back usually excludes blowing up innocent third parties.

If the guy wasn't just a nut, this could have been an accidental premature thing - and there could be others?

Suppose maybe he was planting the device and it went off prematurely?

It said it was strapped to him, so I doubt he was planting anything. Arming or chickening out perhaps.

Poor PC Canada.

They will have to deal with the reality that freedom comes with a price, and that America is its best friend on earth.

The latest report ( a few minutes old, from Al Reuters ) still has no further details. It will be "interesting/"

Keep your head down.

If the bomb is still strapped to him and there is enough left of him to say he was burned , I wonder if it was chemicals or a shock.

Let me repeat.
The Tim Horton's where the explosion occurred
is only a few yards from the entrance
to Toronto's largest subway station.

I have been expecting an 'event' in Toronto's subway
for some time now.

Of course, the KKK were never asked "why", fortunately. They were roundly condemned by the opinion makers of the day.

Sorry if I touched upon some personal aspect of your private life. Obviously, the KKK had nothing to do with today's suicide in Toronto.

It would be interesting to learn what pushed this person beyond his "line in the sand" and forced him to commit suicide. These are lessons that each and every one of us may learn from.

If he was heading for the subway, was there only one?

Where are the rest?

Hmmm.

Think of the difference between the terms insurgent and terrorist.

Apples and oranges. Actually, insurgent has some merits over terrorist. Insurgent implies someone is fighting against the government or authority. Terrorist doesn't necessarily mean the fight is against the government. Meanwhile, terrorist suggests that the tactics used are supposed to make people afraid and back down. Insurgent doesn't really suggest any form of tactic. So it's sort of a push on that one.

But I realize that you want the media to slant the news your way, rather than the other way. I'd just as soon get facts and slant my own brain. I don't need anyone to slant it for me. If a roadside bomb blows up some troops, is that terrorism? Who is supposed to be terrorized by that? The marines? I thought terrorism was usually when you attack a civilian target, like a pizza shop or a bus or a building. So really, if it's IEDs designed to hit our troops, to me, those are insurgents, not terrorists. If they blow up a Mosque or a coffee shop, that's terrorism. They describe different tactics.

Suicide bomber, likewise, describes tactics. Homicide bomber, describes practically nothing.
