Immigration is not the pox neo-Know Nothings make it out to be
The Jewish World Review ^ | 4/31/2006 | Tony Snow

Princeton University sociologist Douglas S. Massey reports that 62 percent of illegal immigrants pay income taxes (via withholding) and 66 percent contribute to Social Security. Forbes magazine notes that Mexican illegals aren't clogging up the social-services system: only 5 percent receive food stamps or unemployment assistance; 10 percent send kids to public schools.

Economist Larry Kudlow praises Hispanic entrepreneurship: "According to 2002 Census Bureau data, Hispanics are opening businesses at a rate three times faster than the national average. In addition, there were almost 1.6 million Hispanic-owned businesses generating $222 billion in revenue in 2002."

~~~~snip~~~~
Total crime and property crime in California are half what they were in 1980; violent crime has fallen more than a third. The state's Hispanic population during that time has increased 120 percent.
Let me answer your questions this way. I want the freedom to hire anyone I want on any terms that we can agree on. If some guy wants to work for me for $1 an hour, I should be able to hire him. It's nobody's business except his and mine. This is part of what freedom actually means.
Okay, then why do you front for illegal immigrants? Why do you think it's okay to accept thousands of terrible crimes just so illegals can roam our nation unfettered?
Had the law been enforced they wouldn't have suffered so. Imagine that!
No, it's not the proposed house version. I found the same section of the law posted here on Jan 27, 2003.
Self defeating? More like realistic. The 86 amnesty was supposed to be the last time and was to be followed by stringent enforcement. Didnt happen. You can go on trusting if you want but I believe even if you assume honest intentions eventually entropy has its way. Which is why I support a border fence.
A border fence is useless without .... (wait for it) .... enforcement, and you said straight out that we can't count on enforcement.
Your argument is therefore self-defeating.
I think the "hispanics" you are talking about have spanish last names but otherwise think of themselves as Americans. Many have been here hundreds of years, many more have generations who've fought and/or served in uniform. The folks pouring in from the PAN provinces don't fit the demographic you are talking about. Build the wall; put an end to chain immigration.
OK, sink, I think it's time to let him in on our dark secret.
We front for illegal immigrants because we're discerning afficianados of "terrible crime". We just cannot get enough of terrible crime. We love to watch it on TV, to finance it for fun and pleasure, and on special occasions, we even go out with the illegal immigrants to commit a few terrible crimes ourselves.
Crime is our passion. Our absolute passion. Robbery, rape, murder.... (sigh) native-born criminals just don't have the same flair for it. We simply must import the true masters....
Maybe so. I believe that the world is a much better place because of any number of people who fixed a problem that had nothing to do with them. I have no children in public schools, but I recognize how important they are. If they ultimately fail, it will be after I'm gone, no skin off my nose. I'm not poor, but I pay taxes to help those who are. I'm not old, but I volunteer for the Community Center. I give blood, but I have O negative; I should logically bank my own blood for my own use, or find another O negative person or two. I'll donate more than I ever use myself.
What you do on your own time and dime should be entirely up to you. But I disagree with the rest of what you said. I think that the world would be a much better place if we abolished public education and all New Deal social legislation. And we would all be better off if we minded our own business and stopped obsessing about what other people do even when they don't harm us personally.
As long as crime is a component of illegal immigration, and people support illegal immigration, they are saying that the crimes committed by illegal immigrants are simply an acceptable price to pay.
If you spouse or children were killed or raped by an illegal immigrant, would it be an acceptable price?
We may have to accept crime from U.S. Citizens as part of the program, but there is no excuse whatsoever for the crimes committed by people who should not be here, and are fronted for by people who like to think they are a conservative / or not.
" It grew up as a popular reaction to fears that corruption was overcoming the major cities because of the political activity of Irish Catholic immigrants."
And Germans. Chicago had their Lager Beer Riot in 1855 after Know-Nothing Mayor Levi Boone raised saloon license fees from $50 to $300 and tried to close their saloons on Sundays. The Huns went crazy.
They do have an entrepreneurial streak in them. Quite a few come here and open up pharmaceutical distribution outposts on many street corners across the USA.
Great post! Many also move up in the business and own their own pharmaceutical labs.
In any event, it doesn't match with the actual current version of 8 USC Sec. 1324. So, it is probably someone's proposed amendment to that law.
Well, by this "logic," we should simply deport everyone in the country. If no one is here, then no one will commit any crimes here.
Nope -- it's not merely an "acceptable price." It's precisely the point. Terrible crime is where it's at, bro -- and nobody does terrible crime like an illegal.
Sorry, you already let the genie out of the bottle with your wild-eyed accusations. I'm disinclined to give you a pass when you try to pull back to live among the rational.
What does being an illegal immigrant have to do with it? It isn't acceptable when a citizen does it either.
