Most Americans I talked to in California summed up their reactions to the marches as something like, 'Why would anyone wave the flag of the country that they would never return to--and yet scream in anger at those with whom they wish to stay?' Depending on the particular questions asked, polls reveal that somewhere around 60-80% of the public is vehemently opposed to illegal immigration.
-snip-
There are over 300 million resident Americans, and the vast majority of them are citizens. Had the demonstrators marched chanting "God Bless America," confined their flag waving to Old Glory, and expressed thanks to a magnanimous United States that gave them a second chance when a corrupt Mexico has precluded their first, then they would have won public support.
-snip-
Yes, illegal immigration provides a valuable source of cheap labor. But such jobs are not just those Americans will never take, but comprise work that they won't seek out at such cheap wages. Where compensation rises, citizen workers will follow.
-snip-
Unless we curb the present influx, return to the melting pot, and salvage a legal remedy from the present illegal disaster, what we saw this week may only be the beginning of something far more dangerous from both sides of this avoidable crisis.

The company that cuts my lawn is made up of 2 teams of 3 guys each. They charge me $25 to cut my lawn. I was here once when they did it. They unloaded 2 of those fast power motors that you stand up and drive, while the third guy uses a weed-eater. It takes them less that 10 minutes to mow my lawn (they don't bag it) from the time they pull up until they pull out. They do a good job, and they're all US citizens. They manage to make a pretty good living, from what they tell me, though it is hard work.
Can anyone explain the logic of a Liberal?
Liberals don't use logic, because it would refute their beliefs.

Thanks for the ping.
I've emailed both my senators (hopeless I live in Wi), Frist, and called my congressman that this is a top priority for me and my family, that I will not support the GOP unless they support closing the border, no amnesty. This is the issue I will part ways with the GOP on unless they get with it.
Worst economy etc... is the stablemate to insisting that Bush allow NO domestic drilling or production while at the same time blaming Bush for high oil prices.
I guess they think voters don't notice their pre-school logic.
This argument over illegal immigration goes to the heart of our American project of self-government. It is about the people reasserting their sovereign rights as citizens to govern themselves through democratically enacted legislation. It is about whether the people's will (and not that of a wealthy and unaccountable ruling elite) will be honored by our elected officials and whether our democratically enacted laws will be enforced by our chief executive -- the President. In short, it is about whether the 219 year old experiment in republican self-government won for us by our founders will be declared officially null and void and replaced by the rule of a political and business oligarchy that substitutes its private interest and agendas for the common good.
"We the people" have made our wishes to control our borders and prevent businesses from hiring illegal aliens loud and clear for decades yet we have had imposed on us by our elected officials an open borders, no enforcement policy that we have rejected time and again. We need a majority of the House members to loudly call for the President to protect our borders and stop trying to force an amnesty program down our throats again. If the President refuses to perform his oath of office and enforce our democratically enacted laws then the House should bring impeachment charges.
Americans are being victimized every day at the hands of criminal illegal immigrants and the President and Congress share blame in each and every crime an illegal immigrant commits as well as for all the economic harm caused by the illegal invasion of our nation. By his ongoing failure to enforce the democratically enacted laws against illegal immigration President Bush has shown his contempt both for democratic self-governance and the American people. His arrogant refusal to perform his constitutional duty should be met with the one remedy provided by the Constitution to protect the people against the usurpation of their legislative authority -- impeachment. It is now well past time for Congress to assert the rights of the American people to self-government.
Bush was never a conservative, but would you really have voted for algore or kerry(vietnam?)?
I really worry that we have created our own little plo or is it mlo??? This threat I don't think I can ignore.
My, my...it sounds like your reading my mind.

RE: MILLION AMERICAN MARCH ON WASHINGTON
I just emailed Rush, Jim Quinn and Rose from the Quinn show.
Email addresses are:
Rush: rush@eib.net
Quinn: quinn@warroom.com
Rose: rose@warroom.com
Savage: paulreveresociety@yahoo.net
Savage is next on my list. Here is what I have already told the others.
Hi, Rush (or whichever one the email is to).
A bunch of people at the FRee Republic (www.freerepublic.com) are trying to organize a national protest of the illegal alien situation at the Washington, D.C. Mall on the Sunday before Memorial Day.
Events there would include the burning of the Mexican flag and guest speakers denouncing the illegal alien situation. Hopefully some politicians can be persuaded to come and speak.
We are hoping that you could announce this on your radio show to see what kind of support it would generate.
If 500,000 illegals and their supporters can gather on the streets of L.A. we should be able to do much better.
Thanks for any support you can give this idea.
Name address phone number I think we have enough talent available on FR to pull it off.

IMHO, it's time for the descendants of the Silent Majority to get up off their asses and be THERE AND BE HEARD!
The time is long since past that we have let all the wackjobs of the left and their islamofascist fellow travelers have a monopoly on REALLY BIG political demonstrations!!!
If you have a ping list, why don't you spread the word?
Doug from Upland is promoting a mailer campaign. I was thinking of using this (courtesy of peyton randolph)...
Using a pink card (i.e. a "pink slip")
Dear (fill in)
If you wish to remain in your legislative
position any longer, the following is required.
No amnesty to illegals. Not now. Not ever.
Secure the borders. Deport illegals.
Allow LEGAL immigrants who stood in line
to get here, have more to contribute, and
WANT to assimilate.
Or... lose the House and Senate in November.

We're in wine country and talking to neighbors about steps we can take to push Pelosi, Boxer and Feinstein (our Wicked Witches of the West) to defy their liberal instincts and personal investments (wineries, restaurants, etc.)
Taking pictures of: day laborers, of our neighborhood transformation into a barrio, ignoring day-to-day laws, etc., - parking in front of fire hydrants for ex.
We're calling the zoning commission and asking if we're zoned for boarding houses or inns. When they say no, we're letting them know that homes around here, sold to families, are housing 12 and more adult males with the families.
We're going to send copies of the letters and enclosures to the Congressmen on the right side of the issue as well.
Small but important steps.
Looks good. My campaign is actually calling businesses and threatening not to patronize them unless they convince you that they are not hiring illegals.
I have a question.
I let my undocumented house keeper go to search for a documented replacement. I called services and asked if they pay taxes. I settled on a company that I was satisfied to be a legitimate, licensed, tax paying company.
I am now fairly certain that the workers they send are undocumented. I pay the company, but THEY are hiring illegals. Does that make me an employer who hires illegals?
BTW, the post card idea should get some attention!
