The Costs of Amnesty
NRO ^ | 30 Mar 06 | Jim Boulet Jr.

Given that Democratic Leader Harry Reid has threatened to filibuster any immigration bill that does not include amnesty for illegal aliens, someone should ask him a basic question: What happens to state budgets when twelve million illegal aliens become eligible for Medicaid and food stamps?

Right now, illegal aliens are largely ineligible for a whole panoply of federal programs simply because of their immigration status.

As the Pew Hispanic Center reported last year: "[A]bout a quarter of all drywall and ceiling tile installers in the United States are unauthorized migrants, as are about a quarter of all meat and poultry workers and a quarter of all dishwashers." Whatever the nobility of honest labor, hanging drywall and washing dishes has not exactly been the road to riches.

Where will we get another 11 million illegals when our current illegals are made legal?

Too bad Blacks are stepping up demanding those illegal immigrant jobs even if they are service or labor intensive!

They'd rather stay on welfare and wait for reparations!

If you bankrupt the states

I think that at some point enough states will band together and give a collective NO to the costs that the federal government imposes on the states that arise from a federal deriliction of duty that the feds will be forced to act. Educating the children of illegals will be one Big Ticket item. "Prop 187" type items will be another.

My answer would be this: Shut down your Medicaid and food stamp programs completely, and you won't have a freakin' problem.

--yep--and I already know how much good it does me to call, email or write his office---

If you are in his district, including your voter registration information tends to get attention. When a politician sees that you not only are registered to vote, but actually vote, then you start to really matter.

Ah, so if you disagree with turning America into Mexico and you stay home on election day rather than vote for any OBL, you are the one letting it happen.

If a burglar breaks into your house and gets his ass shot, is it your fault for shooting him, or his fault for breaking in?

"Doing the jobs American won't do."

What he really means is "Doing the jobs that Americans won't do at a really low wage so my Corporate cronies can make tens of millions instead of merely millions".

"Harvard University economist George Borjas recently published a study on the economic effects of immigration. He thinks the costs and benefits are a wash. Small gains to the broader economy are offset by social and fiscal costs such as providing health care to poor immigrants and schooling children who don't speak English.

"It would not be farfetched to say there would be zero gain from this," he said in an interview.

ZERO net benefit. As usual the liberal democrats have it wrong, they have no clue about what's RIGHT for our Country!

When discussing this issue, I've said on a number of occasions that the "cheap labor" aspect of illegal immigration isn't what is really driving the whole thing. I suspect that the primary impetus for allowing these people to flood into the country is that they represent new consumers, not just workers.

If you are running across the border today and there's a real good chance that you'll end up in a Wal-Mart aisle next month -- and perhaps in a Ford dealership five years from now -- then you may as well be a citizen as far as this country is concerned.

The real cost of illegal immigration is the bloody civil war we're going to be forced to fight to save the United States.

We are going to have another problem that many people haven't thought about. Organ donations. We will be putting thousands of Mexicans on our lists as they will be entitled to everything that is American. As I understand, the organ donation list has thousands waiting now for organs.

That's not my attitude -- that's your government speaking.

A massive influx on immigrants has been the "natural" response of every affluent Western nation in the last few decades when they were faced with their own self-made demographic crises. There's no reason why the U.S. would be immune to this.

`Where will we get another 11 million illegals . . '

Same place we got the illegals currently in our country, umgud. Advocates of "immigration reform" remind me of "gun control" advocates: they don't enforce the laws on the books now--state and federal--and the criminals know it,
so they plan to pass more laws . . . that won't be enforced.

The plan: Illegals are to pay a $1,000 fine, then leave and return later to pay another $1,000 fine. That would be comical if only these scofflaws and their `anchor babies' were not now raising the Mexican flag above Old Glory, upside down.
But not to worry: Jorge is receiving his marching orders from his Mexican overlord, even as we speak.

Solution? See tag line.

There won't be one. President McCain, now done with free speech by 2009, will go after the 2nd amendment and take away any chance of a CV2 EVER taking place.

This country can either be Japan, or it can be France. There is no alternative. We've simply decided to be France -- without the militant Islam.
