I will try to be civil narby, I do not want my account banned, so I will say you need to look at reality. The reality is the educational and even religous instituions that in the past were in charge of Americanizing children of immigrants are now dominated by liberals, who have become entrenched in the last 40 years. The govrenmnet encourages non assimilation by brinting multi lingual ballots, and by affirmative action programs as well. Also unlike European immigrants in the past(and Asian immigrants now)the Mexican homeland is not that far away, so the cultural, social and political connections remain). So the way things stand, the deck is stacked against assimilation. If you do not see that narby, you are truely blind.

The only solution is to take a short term political and economic hit and hit those who employ illegals HARD. Have no mercy on those who hire illegals, and over the course of the next few years, millions will go home. In the 30s, over a million illegals then went back to Mexico, and in t he 50s, the US govrenment by enforcement of immigration laws sent over a million illegals packing. It is simple logic you fail to understand narby, if illegals have no jobs, they will pick up and leave.

Lastly, look again at the picture, that picture of the Mexican flag above an upside down American flag, this is what the business community has brought the US because of their greedy need for cheap labor, and this is what illegal immigration is about. This is where the mindset of many illegal aliens are, and as they are now, they are a clear and present danger to the US and her future. No amount of slogans and being a bleeding heart will change that reality.

Yes I will insult liars. Do your homework before you spout off. Take a hike

And your homework is where?

I'm waiting for your link on immigration data and country of origin from 100 years ago.

Why don't those people put the same time and effort into becoming legal immigrants?

That would be hard work. It's danged easy to walk across an undefended border into a country that you know has no internal enforcement mechanisms left to speak of.

Good evening.
"The change of demograhics in California is what switched the state from being moderate-conservative to solidly liberal."

The growth of the big cities, with their universities, followed by the spread out to the suburbs by city folk is what changed the demographics of the state, less immigration from Mexico than immigration from New York and Massachusetts.

The invasion is definitely a clear and present danger.

Agreed, 95% of the enforcement effort should be against those who employ illegals, and that in short order would solve 90% of the illegal immigration problem.

Amen! Fine and jail employers of illegals and they will deport themselves quickly at their own expense. It's not a difficult or complicated solution. The other factor is control of the border. The only difficulty there is the will to do it. After the summer of unrest that's coming that probably won't be so difficult.

I find it soooo ironic that the Mexican flag has the same colors as the Iranian flag and very close to the Iraqi flag......

And it has the same colors as those "evil" Italians, also.

LOL! You all are hialrious.

You have not offered an actual solution. Only a broad statement.

No time for itemized details in this discussion. If my broad statement of direction is wrong, then make your case.

Encroaching our borders in violation of our criminal codes...

So they are right up there with tax evaders and traffic violators, are those 'invaders' as well?

... sovereignty makes them an invader.

Now we're back to people looking for work are a threat to our sovereignty line. Like I said, that's utter noncense

And I think we should spend our efforts trying to convince modern immigrants to do the same.

If they have to be "convinced," they're in the wrong place.

Yelling at them, calling them "illegal"...

They are illegal. Don't words have meaning to you?

Because we had virtually no limits on immigration in those years.

Yes, we did. We had limits based on the number of immigrants who were able to be assimilated. What makes you think that US immigration policy started with Cesar Chavez?

They're human just like anyone else.

Please, taking the cheapest shot possible doesn't enhance your argument.

We have stupidly, at the behest of communists like Cesar Chaves and his union, lowered the number of legal immigrants to unreasonably low numbers.

About spewed my coffee on that one.

Ridiculous.

Buddy, in California, I saw first hand how working class neighborhoods that were low crime decline into barrios. South LA county is a prime example, aslo the San Fernando valley and many parts of San Jose as well.

Also, look up congresional quarterly at the library, you can see exit poll information, I looked a while back, and except for the 84 election(When Reagan got a little over 40% of the Hispanic vote in CA), Hispanics usually went close to 2-1 Democratic.

As for the 44% figure, much of that 44% came from Cubans in FL and 3rd, 4th and 5th generation Mexican Americans in Texas and New Mexico, states where voters who were mostly immigrants or 2nd generation had the Hispanic vote over 2-1 for Kerry.

Nevertheless, if some idiot shoots someone in the next few days, this discussion will be over. And we will have lost.
