Im enraged folks, at a single quote from this column that was forwarded to me today. The column starts by saying that The Internet continues to confound Congress and the courts when it comes to free speech.
Uh, excuse me? What right does the congress and the courts have to be thinking about it AT ALL?
The only thing they are allowed to do is PROTECT the current freedoms we have that already exist.
Even more disturbing is the quote from the article which states that The Federal Elections Commission will decide Monday whether political blogs like the conservative Free Republic or the liberal Daily Kos should fall under the McCain-Feingold Bill and should be forced to register with the FEC.
This is not something that should take place in a free society.
Registration with the FEC opens a pandoras box that cant be closed again, and when that happens its over.
Oh, but it will ensure honesty and fairness, you say.
That may be true, but what it wont ensure is freedom, a word Im repeating ad nauseam in this article because its a concept that this country seems to have lost sight of.
Freedom of speech is a simple prospect: either you have it, or you dont. I own this domain name and this web page, and as long as the company who hosts it on their server doesnt have a problem with what I write, then I can get paid however I want by whomever I want and post anything I want, and so can moveon.org and freerepublic.com.
THAT IS FREEDOM.
Screwing with that in any way whatsoever is government coercion, pure and simple.
I dont give a damn what the government says- weve sacrificed enough of our freedoms in this country over the years and Ive had it.
I will continue to operate this web site in the exact manner in which I do today, regardless of whatever laws are passed. I am willing to engage in willful civil disobedience if they screw with our right to unregulated internet free speech.
Men have gone to jail and/or died for lesser causes and Im willing to do both if necessary because Ive had it with government coercion!
If you agree with me, then get on the phone to your local congressman, senator, mayor, household pet, anyone and everyone who is interested and also those who arent.
Let them know youre mad as hell!
In plain English, here it is: THE INTERNET MUST REMAIN FREE FROM THE KIND OF GOVERNMENT REGULATION ALLUDED TO IN THIS ARTICLE.
If you agree with me, then contact your local officials, national officials, and elected officials that you dont even know and aren't in your district.
If you disagree with me dont bother emailing me because you wont change my mind and frankly I dont care!
The internet is the last free place on earth and if the government gets its slimy scaly wretched hands on it, ITS ALL OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
--Chad E. Rogers.
That sums it up for me.
--amen, brother-!!
Congress cant touch it. As soon as they do they will be mobbed, like they have never seen. They are P*ssy's and when they are flooded they will crawl back to their hole.
This was my argument against the 'New and Improved Patriot Act'. Once government takes away a liberty, we will NEVER get it back. But the lemmings here on FR will gladly step in line and relinquish the rights our forefathers sacrificed everything for, in the name of 'security'.
I am thoroughly disgusted with what this country has become.
Exactly!!
Nonsense. We got habeas corpus back after Lincoln suspended it. During times of war it is natural and necessary that things tighten up. What FDR did during WWII would get him impeached today. A free people will always press for expansion of their liberties but it will be occur during peace time.
But this is something they would do in China and has no place here. We must protect the internet at all costs because the freedoms allowed here rightfully belong to all the citizens of the world.
"You CAN'T touch this!
Did I see that MoveOn.org was on their hit list? Did I miss that?
The first thing the Hitler's/Stalins/etc of the world do is shut down communications between citizens.
The Internet is the greatest tool for freedom man has ever known.
Trouble for the libRats is that their lies get exposed and they are no longer in total control of the dissemination on news - Dictators don't get elected with an informed electorate.
Let the Demonazis and Republifascists pass their sh!tty little law. I dare them to try and enforce it.
That about says it.
I hope we all are pounding our Senators and Congress critters to make sure they know if they let mclean and goldfinger anywhere around the internet, they won't be voted back to Washington Doesn't Care.....
Not a threat, just facts folks....
George Soros, Moveon.org, Streissand and the lot will NEVER allow this to happen. If they shut down conservative sites, they'll have to shut down liberal sites.
Now... are they going to stop me from sending political email??? Hmmmmmm???
First email I will send: REMOVE MCCAIN NOW!
It is no longer acceptible to speak out against something if the opinion helps an opposition candidate. To the incumbant, the opposition opinion is no different than a paid campaign commercial, and so should be treated as such. This is a ridiculous position to take.
At what point will my vote be considered an in-kind contribution to a candidate?

Wisely, they put in a 2nd Amendment as a fallback mechanism.
Our politicians are nothing but a pack of lawyers that will twist the word of the law into whatever they decide it is. They no longer care if it's illegal or not, but if they can get away with it and for how long.
During 'times of war' you say? Well, we have The War on Poverty (still fighting it, no end in sight), The War on Drugs (ditto), and now The War on Terror (ditto again). Government will always create an enemy to take the heat off their screwups.
Until we lose the 2nd amendment, that is. Oh, wait...most citizens already have, through 'progressive' gun laws.
Keep that powder dry, amigo...you will be needing it.
