SpongeBob on Brit Hume's Target List
The steady creep to the top for Brit Hume's nightly Special Report on Fox--not just the No.1 Washington-originated cable show but also the fourth in all basic cable at 6 p.m.--has the host eyeing the next victim. "We've been having a series of meetings here about how we can beat Nickelodeon," he says. "We just hope that they don't put SpongeBob SquarePants up against us." Fun aside, Hume's hourlong mix of news and debate now reaches 1.5 million nightly while dominating the key 25-to-54 age demographic. And it happened in a very un-Fox-like way: without fanfare, even though Hume has recently surged to the No. 2 spot among all cable news shows, after Bill O'Reilly.
When Special Report started in 1998, the goal was giving the growing Washington bureau some visibility. Now the top audience-getter of Washington shows, including CNN's Situation Room and MSNBC's Hardball, Hume says, "We kind of pinch ourselves." Like a good boss--Hume is the managing editor of the D.C. bureau--he credits his news team. But the "poisonous" mood in Washington doesn't hurt either. "For those who have a rooting interest in it," he says, "they want to hear about it."
While beating the pants off SpongeBob is a long-term goal, Hume has a more immediate worry: No. 12 ESPN's March Madness coverage. "If they've got games on at 6 at night," he frets, "that's gonna be tough."
If Brit Hume wants to beat SpongBob, he'll need to bring on Plankton for an interview! :0)
Always a hoot!
Bump and PING!
Fox should wise up and produce a network Nightly News to rival the usual MSM (CBS-NBC-ABC) offerings. They have the Fox affiliates and they have Brit Hume. I would love to watch FOX kick the liberal slant establishment news broadcasts and expose the truth to those people who do not have cable TV.
Hey, I have an idea. Maybe Nancy Pelosi can add affordable cable TV to her promise of affordable broadband for everyone. (And yes, I know "affordable" means those of us that won "lifes lottery" and have to donate our "fair share" will pay for it).
Brit is great!! He cuts through the cr*p and gets to the gist of the matter.
Wow! I thought I was the only one who couldn't watch anything but Brit. And .. even then .. a lot of time I just don't watch any of it. It sure has helped my mood not hearing all that garbage from the left.
The 8-11 year old demographic, coupled with the entire voting bloc of the Democrat Party with cable help "SpongeBob" lock up that time slot.
Then Brit, calmly says "Juan...........Juan..."
Amen.
Sorry about the double post.
They need to expand the round table time to three topics.
Isn't that the truth. I suppose a person (possibly a DU'er) could argue that I choose not to listen to the mainstream media because I don't like the "truth". But as a current events junky with a wide range of resources at my disposal for gaining insight into what is real and what is MSM fiction, the most disturbing thing about watching MSM "news" is watching so many things get reported falsely. I can handle bad news. I can't stand lying or covering up good news. And since I quit reading and listening to the sources of disinformation, my mood has improved considerably. I honestly don't remember when the last time was that I watched a news broadcast from any of the major networks. For all I know Cronkite is still anchoring. Or is he dead? Who cares.
Much of the stuff on Fox News is no longer worth watching (O'Reilly, Greta, most weekend stuff), but Special Report is the exception.
Thanks for the ping!
Yep pardoner you got that right.
Charles is one of the smartest men in Washington.
I look to Brit to tell me how it really is and not how the MSM wants it to be.
I love Brit. He cracks me up every nite when the "comedy section" comes on at the end of the program. He's got a great sense of humor, and at the end of the snippets, I get a big kick out of him laughing and snickering at these segments, as he invariably does. Puts me in a better mood just listening to him laugh.
