Some Irish tunes for your listening pleasure. A couple of wave files - full-length, lilting, Irish melodies - they are so beautiful! I hope you can open them, or "save target as" to your hard drive and listen to them later.
"My Wild Irish Rose" ~ John Gary
"I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen" ~ John Gary

MIDIS

"Irish Lullabye"
"The Last Rose of Summer"
"When Irish Eyes are Smiling"
"I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen"
"Danny Boy"

Finest Friends....

May you always have work for your hands to do.
May your pockets hold always a coin or two.
May the sun shine bright on your windowpane.
May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you.
And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

MEG33 ~ I remember WWII, I was eleven when Pearl Harbor was attacked.

Gasoline wasn't a problem as dad was a farmer and we had plenty of gas and dad gave our meat ration stamps to close friends.

Hmm, the photos opened for me. Who can understand these mysteries? :-)

I just found out FR had its own thread on the subject of the Franklin. I managed to miss it at the time. Here:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/vetscor/1175363/posts?page=1

The Franklin was only 50 miles off the Japanese coast. She was hit in the last months of the war. The incident is a stark reminder of the horrendous price we would have had to pay to invade the Japanese home islands. The estimate was as many as one MILLION dead -- and Heaven knows how many more Japanese casualties. We (and especially the Japanese) were spared from that cataclysm by Truman's decision to drop the atomic bombs. Thousands died at Himoshima and Nagasaki but the bloodshed ended at once. Counting all, then, the A-bombs actually saved millions of lives.
