Thanks! At supper, I was telling DH about this thread. He does not net, so I had to practically yell at him "Hey, nobody yelled at me for not having a linkable source! I beat Drudge! It got put in Breaking News without me asking (ohmygod, me, talk to a mod???? never!) and was still there the last time I looked. And, it has over 500 replies, and very little snarkyness." Know what he wanted to know? If I posted under my own name, and could I spell that thing the soldiers do when they come out of the choppers on those long cables. Obviously, I can't spell it yet!

I meant to qualify what I said about jumping. Jumping out of a helo and shinnying down a thin metal cable while several stories up in the air is rather awe inspiring also. Besides, I bet the 10-first fellas got to get their Airborne Wings just like everybody else.

C-130 rolling down the strip
Airborne daddy on a one way trip
Mission uncertain, destination unknown
We don't know if we're ever coming home
Stand up, hook up, shuffle to the door
Jump right out and count to four
If my main don't open wide
I got another one by my side
If that one should fail me too
Look out ground I'm coming through
Slip to the right and slip to the left
Slip on down, do a PLF
Hit the drop zone with my feet apart
Legs in my stomach and feet in my heart
If I die on the old drop zone
Box me up and ship me home
Pin my wings upon my chest
Bury me in the leaning rest
If I die in the Spanish Moors
Bury me deep with a case of Coors
If I die in Korean mud
Bury me deep with a case of Bud
If I die in a firefight
Bury me deep with a case of Lite
If I die in a German blitz
Bury me deep with a case of Schlitz
If I die, don't bring me back
Just bury me with a case of Jack

It's about damn time we up'ed the ass-kicking level in this thing. And what a coincidence (sarcasm) that it comes just one day after Saddam instructed his loyalist insurgents to unite and increase the attacks on our troops. Haha. They're roasting in hell tonight!

I am disappointed, folks. I wanted to get home from work and turn on Fox and see bunker bombs being dropped. I was told all day that we had begun the largest air assault since the war began. All we did was move our ground troops so more of them could get killed by IED's, and shoot-outs with "insurgents".

Why, why in the he*% aren't we dropping bombs???? Why aren't we getting them? Why are we sending our guys in there on foot? This isn't an air assault - this is suicide for our troops!

It's hardly "suicide for our troops," who deserve an order of magnitude more credit than you give them.

Consider the possibility that they have some clue what they're doing, and why.

I think this will make Bush's poll numbers go up. That's what we want, go over there, kick a$$, and get it over with. Don't run a PC war

please do not get me wrong! I have the utmost respect for our guys and what they are doing. I'm an army brat and you will never hear a bad word out of my mouth about our military. That being said... this war will not be won by foot soldiers. It will take true arial assaults. bomb them and then send in our guys to finish off the rest. I fear for our guys on the ground because everywhere they step, every turn, every road they go down is an IED waiting to go off. An enemy ready to blow us away. That's what I meant by suicide. Why can't we clean house by air and then send in our guys? Can someone explain this to me?

No, because right now we don't know exactly what they're doing. This is not an accident.

The people who chose to take a boots-on-the-ground approach to this mission spend their lives honing their decision making skills. The odds that they're going to overlook something that appears obvious to a stateside civilian who has no information about the operation is really rather remote. If air support would help further their objectives and/or reduce risk, we can assume they would be using it.

The other alternative is that our military decision makers are really not very bright. I reject this explanation, and hope you do so as well.

Sorry, but I've only been around for a few months and can't answer that. What I showed is what I've figured out so far.

thank you for you reply; however, Bush, as much as I like him, has not fought an aggressive war. Shock and Awe was not shock and awe. this has been, in my opinion, a war fought on political correctness - that we have to be sensitive to the Iraqis and the terrorists. Anderson Cooper was talking last night how much he thought it was an atrocity that we did not have imbedded journalists in this mission and that he didn't like the fact that all of our information was coming from the Dept. of Defense. It ticked me off I had to change the channel.

If we had been allowed to fight this war the way we wanted, it would be over by now (in my civilian opinion). I mean look at the outcry over the way we are treating the poor Muslim terrorists and detainees. I think we are pussy-footing around so we don't "damage a mosque" or hurt some Muslim's feelings. The press and the left don't care that our guys are being killed by those they are trying to protect.

I have to trust what they are doing. Supposedly they have been planning this for a month but to be the "largest arial assault since the war began"? please... they didn't "assault" anything - 50 or so helicopters dropped off our men in the desert. Where was the assault? By definition an assault is a violent attack, an act that threatens physical harm. In my opinion, this was the wrong choice of words. It wasn't an arial assault - it was a sneak attack - We just used whirlybirds to get our guys there quicker.
