Why can't we clean house by air and then send in our guys? Can someone explain this to me?

No, because right now we don't know exactly what they're doing. This is not an accident.

The people who chose to take a boots-on-the-ground approach to this mission spend their lives honing their decision making skills. The odds that they're going to overlook something that appears obvious to a stateside civilian who has no information about the operation is really rather remote. If air support would help further their objectives and/or reduce risk, we can assume they would be using it.

The other alternative is that our military decision makers are really not very bright. I reject this explanation, and hope you do so as well.

thank you for you reply; however, Bush, as much as I like him, has not fought an aggressive war. Shock and Awe was not shock and awe. this has been, in my opinion, a war fought on political correctness - that we have to be sensitive to the Iraqis and the terrorists. Anderson Cooper was talking last night how much he thought it was an atrocity that we did not have imbedded journalists in this mission and that he didn't like the fact that all of our information was coming from the Dept. of Defense. It ticked me off I had to change the channel.

If we had been allowed to fight this war the way we wanted, it would be over by now (in my civilian opinion). I mean look at the outcry over the way we are treating the poor Muslim terrorists and detainees. I think we are pussy-footing around so we don't "damage a mosque" or hurt some Muslim's feelings. The press and the left don't care that our guys are being killed by those they are trying to protect.

I have to trust what they are doing. Supposedly they have been planning this for a month but to be the "largest arial assault since the war began"? please... they didn't "assault" anything - 50 or so helicopters dropped off our men in the desert. Where was the assault? By definition an assault is a violent attack, an act that threatens physical harm. In my opinion, this was the wrong choice of words. It wasn't an arial assault - it was a sneak attack - We just used whirlybirds to get our guys there quicker.
