Media shockingly ignorant of Muslims among us (Steyn)
Chicago Sun Times ^ | 03/12/06 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 03/12/2006 5:57:00 AM PST by aynrandfreak

This week's Voldemort Award goes to the New York Times for their account of a curious case of road rage in North Carolina:

"The man charged with nine counts of attempted murder for driving a Jeep through a crowd at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill last Friday told the police that he deliberately rented a four-wheel-drive vehicle so he could 'run over things and keep going.' "

The driver in question was Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar.

Whoa, don't jump to conclusions. The Times certainly didn't. As the report continued:

"According to statements taken by the police, Mr. Taheri-azar, 22, an Iranian-born graduate of the university, felt that the United States government had been 'killing his people across the sea' and that his actions reflected 'an eye for an eye.'"

"His people"? And who exactly would that be? Taheri-azar is admirably upfront about his actions. As he told police, he wanted to "avenge the deaths or murders of Muslims around the world."

And yet the M-word appears nowhere in the Times report. Whether intentionally or not, they seem to be channeling the great Sufi theologian and jurist al-Ghazali, who died a millennium ago but whose first rule on the conduct of dhimmis -- non-Muslims in Muslim society -- seem to have been taken on board by the Western media:

The dhimmi is obliged not to mention Allah or His Apostle. . . .

The lefties and their media will not acknowledge any terrorist attack unless they can fault Bush for not stopping it.

Their solution to dealing with domestic terrorism was to create a bureaucracy above homeland security, a "terror czar". The fact of the matter is that you can't prevent terrorism without ESP.

To admit that this act was terrorism, you'd have to follow with this question:

"How do we prevent Islamic terrorists from plowing their vehicles into crowds of people".

The answer to that question is something the left doesn't want contemplated.

Islam is a stand in for the losers of the world the same losers that the soft white liberals in Manhattan have spent a lifetime glorifiying as the savior of mankind.

While 40% of UK Muslims want Sharia and 20% admitted sypathy with 7/7, it's important to remember that plenty of Muslims don't agree with them and just as plenty of non-Orthodox Jews who eat pork, and plenty of non-Fundamentalist Christians who don't agree with the idea that only Christians are saved, there are plenty of Muslims who aren't out to kill infidels and just want to live their lives in peace and prosperity. Even if killing and subjugating infidels is integral to Islam for the sake of argument (I'm not convinced it has to be or is), it does not follow that every Muslim wants to kill or subjugate infidels.

Yes. The New Dhimmi Times needs to be called to account for their journalistic malpractice here.

There is a word for not telling the whole truth: LYING.

A Muslim man with rage about the clash between Islam and the west goes out and tries to kill people.

Why is the New York Times lying?

"If Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar is not a free-lance terrorist, then what is he?

Part of a cell, but with very little patience or discipline? Might not hurt to be looking for the rest of the cell. But you're correct, his Imam/Mullah is the place to start.

In reality, it means that non believers are tolerated and left alone as long as they pay a special tax levy, do not carry bibles in public, do not mention their religion to Muslims (this is considered preaching), do not build churches where they can gather to worship and confine their religious services to their private homes. Violations of any of these rules meet with varying degrees of penalty, from imprisonment to death.

Islamic apartheid.

A recent graduate who has overstayed his student visa and must now return to a country run by a madman who threatens to call in thermonuclear destruction ~ so he goes crazy and tries to run down some Americans with an automobile.

That I can understand. I also am not prone to listen closely to the madman's understanding of his own feelings. He needs to be medicated.

"Islam was spread through violence and it continues to spread through violence."

My theory, greatly simplified to fit the space:

Islam started at a time in history where there was a lot of turmoil and "disorganization". Violence was relatively common. Most current religions have had violence involved in their history to some extent. The difference is that most civilisations and religions moved away from violent tendendcies in favor of intellectual development. In these societies, those that were violent were either executed, punished or exiled. Some forms of violence persisted longer in areas of many civilisations, but, for the most part, civilised societies developed to the point where violence is not generally accepted.

Islam, however, has regressed. Muslims look at violence as a virtue. Those with the most violent characteristics and the most hair-trigger flight-or-flight-responses are considered the strongest, are emulated and are made leaders, both civic and religious. Over the centuries, Islam has become more violent because anyone born into Islam who showed peaceful tendencies was considered a traitor to be outcast or murdered. The most violent became the most powerful and wealthiest, and, consequently, had the most wives who produced offspring with tendencies towards violence. Thus, the violence in muslims from the core of Islam's beginnings has a gentic component. Islam has been able to jump to non-Arab cultures by attracting the violent subcultures in remote areas. In this way they have been able to leap into distant parts of the world and sow the seeds of violence and terror. Islam has become expert in terrorizing. Muslims attack and murder nonmuslims. Then they get off of the hook by claiming that they were being discriminated against or harrassed, that they are a poor, peaceful minority. And muslims are very successful because they are usually attacking truly peaceful people who are unarmed. Once there are sufficient muslims in an area, many of the remaining residents capitulate to Islam and convert. This continues until there is a muslim majority. Once that is acheived, all other religions may just as well leave the area or they will face a tortuous existence.

Virtually every country that has attained a muslim majority shows the true face of Islam: Intollerance of any other religion and rampant violence.

I wouldn't could on it. Muslims like to establish their terror centers in remote areas.

Not that I don't like Wyoming...nice place but a bit cold in the winter.

The New York Times is lying because it's run by a bunch of liars. If they told the truth about what is going on their party, the Dems, would NEVER win another election. That would put the times out of power permanently.

"it does not follow that every Muslim wants to kill or subjugate infidels."

True. But every muslim supports every other muslim, including the estimated 130,000,000 who identify themselves as islamists and who are open about their desire to kill all Jews, Christians and other infidels. A muslims first allegiance is to islam not the US or the UK or wherever they happen to live.

That 46% figure is a crock.

The idea that over half of the American public accept, let alone, endorse, Islam is patently absurd.

Yet another lie propagated by the gatekeepers.

Most Moslems are of the impression that most of the people who claim to be Moslems are either hypocrites or apostates.

It's not a monolithic body.

BTW, the figure of 130,000,000 "Islamists" is something I've seen dropped into numerous FR threads as an "estimate" made by someone else. I don't think I've ever before seen it posted as a "self classification".

Might want to give us a source on it so we can see what it means.
