I'm gonna play Yogi and claim it's not over until it's over. Remember no mater how good the story it only has a two -four weeks life-span in today's mass media.

Well, first both House and Senate have to pass the bill. the President has promised veto....I think he'd do it in this instance however we have no precedent from Bush on veto, so hard to predict 100%. But he is a man who tends very much to do what he says.

So, after all that, and all that time, would congress still muster 2/3 to override?

I don't understand why the WH won't get out in front of it more. I worry they are totally absorbed in other directions though, namely Iran.

I don't think our bases are in danger of being expelled, BTW.

I hope they can't make it veto proof. And I'd like to see the WH appoint someone to lead the education on this matter; I know the president and cabinet members are busy, but they have GOT to get a better PR person in there to get the facts out before the media has a chance to do it's damage.

It's disappointing to see this out of the House. The Senate, under Frist, we've been conditioned to expect their nonsense.

But the House usually hasn't been such knee-jerk lemmings.

It will be a great strategic loss of an ally and military bases in the midst of the war on terror.

Geez, guess what? ICBMs don't need military bases in the UAE, or Oman or Kuwait, Qatar, or Bahrain.

Nuke Tehran and the UAE Oman Kuwait Qatar Bahrain and the whole muslim world will not just jump when we say jump but will ask how high. AND, if not, we keep annihilating their cities until they do.

This is either a war or a waste of time and lives. Muslims are our enemy. If that were not the case there would have been a 10 million man muslim army marching on AlQaida 4 years ago. But the truth is there isn't even 10,000 being sent to Iraq from the 1.2 billion muslims.

We did not start this war. Muslims did. They attacked the WTC Twice not just on 9/11. President Bush needs to stop calling the muslim religion NOBLE GREAT and PEACEFULL. He needs to stop having breakfast with them and start BREAKING THEM FAST!

Iraq is now controlled by a former American hating, Sharia loving terrorist of the DAWA, PM Jaafari - who is tied closely to the insane Iranian regime.

Wake up 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

I'm wondering (worrying) if something is really imminent in regards to Iran and this whole port business has simply been determined to not be of enough significance (especially at this point in the eleciton year) to allocate the resources and attention to.

Which exasperates us of course. And if I'm wrong about the Iran being imminent part, then I'm doubly exasperated.

And John Kerry has been suprisingly silent

Plus, John Kerry isn't beholden to Arab interests; he is pre-owned by Big Ketchup.

You're criticizing the only people who have lifted a finger on behalf of conservatism without having to have a political 2x4 upside their heads.

Such as whom, then? For what, specifically?

Bush pushed several huge initiatives that only a Prez can do, which were the right thing to do, and which John Kerry would never do.

I don't rample about vices and virtues and crap in my statement.

I say: Bush got us out of the ABM treaty to counter the North Korean threat in the only rational way: AMerican Technology vs. ICBM proliferation.

I say: Bush kept us out of Kyoto, thereby keeping the internationalists from strangling our economy in favor of China and other unregulated industrial countries under Kyoto.

Name two initiatives your grand Congresscrud brought us! Just TWO.

Our majority in Congress has done nothing but cram pork spending into rolled up spending bills like this one using our military men and women as hostage to force Bush to their own political will.

There is a serious security aspect that arises from the running of our ports. That's why even you, if you were director of DHS, wouldn't let Al Qaeda, The Chinese military, a North Korean company or an Iranian company buy a firm that had the rights to manage our ports. These UAE people will put their own people in, albeit gradually at first. Many of these UAE-appointed workers will have Osama deep in their hearts, as the entire UAE society has Al Qaeda fans at all levels of stratification. They will be able to see how the Coast Guard operates tp protect our ports. They will see port vulnerability assessments. They will learn how, when and why we search cargo ships and containers. They will be at ground zero, have the run of the place, and be able to bring in anything they want. Only a simpleton would create such an unnecessary security risk, or count on federal employees to protect us against the consequences of a breach. Furthermore, it is absurd to ask why Britain should be able to manage our ports, but the UAE should not be able to. See the list of prohibited parties, above, and add others if you wish. The UAE is on that list, for me and about 200 million other Americans.

The UAE people do not belong in our ports. You can't unring a bell, and the kinds of things that can occur from a breach in port security are so horrendous that they are worth political infighting to prevent.

Thank God, the House is going to save us from the evil UAE. I hope next the House votes to stop the U.S. Navy from using their largest port outside the U.S., also managed by Dubai.

It looks like some of these "Conservatives" are too busy watching skewed polls and political posturing than doing their jobs. They must have forgotten how they were originally elected? They must have also forgotten the golden rule, DON'T MESS WITH MILITARY MONEY OR EVEN ATTEMPT!

"House Appropiations Committe voted to block Dubai deal"

GOOD!

"By a vote of 62-2"

Ouch. Who were the two idiots?

"Unless of course you look at the Mexican border situation."

Ouch again.

The "crack down not a crack up" is becoming very clear lately over immigration, spending, this ports fiasco and Harriet Miers.

The people that did this all deserve to be voted out of office, the entire GOP deserves to pay for letting this happen.

You don't screw with the Defense Bill to fund our troops at war for your political games. It is totally INEXCUSABLE!

Yes, Bush has been fighting for you by allowing our southern borders to be overrun by illegal immigrants.

You're GD right he has.

I missed the part in your sermon about how closing the Mexican border or rejecting the UAE deal (or Cosco Long Beach deal back then) would've saved a single life on 9/11. So here's my sermon.

I do note that the NSA wiretapping thing might've helped.

Yes indeed. The UNC terrorist was in the US legally. The Lodi terrorists: not illegal immigrants. The NYE plot from Canada: legal immigration. The 9/11 terrorists, on good Visas. Did not come through the Mexican border.

So.. George Bush sits in the oval office thinking that spending money on NSA surveillance programs to catch ALL of the criminals, not just the Mexicans is a pretty damn good deal.

Or we could spend it on your infantile concept of a "wall", waste troops to sit on their duff, and strangle the entire US economy.

I apologize for my tone to a lady, but how dare you attack Bush when he has had nothing but vitriolic attacks from the Left for his entire tenure, sneaky attacks from his own Party---when it suited them politically--- and now from his voters....yet not one word of disgust for the idiots in Congress that actually control the purse.

I know you wouldn't have wanted Kerry selling this country out for eight years instead of Bush....but who would you have preferred in the primary instead? McCain? Lamar Alexander? Forbes? I mean seriously!?!! Buchanan has gone nuts in just 5 years writing columns. Imagine if he were put under the broiler Bush has been under.

Do you think there's a single person in the Repub party aside from Bush in 2000 that had the balls to get us through the Guantanamo decision, for example? If so, I missed him (or her.)

That was Bush's decision, you know....What would Forbes or McCain have done, for example? After Afghanistan, which everyone in America thought was rightly a response to 9/11---no WMD complaints from anyone----we had POWs captured in battle. Being a POW himself, imagine the howls and cries if McCain had authorized torture at Abu Ghraib or Koruns down toilets in Gitmo! End. of. GOP. Right there alone.

Would anyone other than "chickenhawk" Bush have decided to hold those guys there and let them rot? Any non-headstrong prez would've given them show trials of justice, with the ACLU defending them. We'd have seen shades of 1993 for HUNDREDS of TRIALs for DECADES.

Oh yeah. That would calm the Islamofascists down.
