GOOD!!! Never liked this deal, and never will.

This is still in the posturing mode, with messages being conveyed between the legislative and executive. Aside from the veiled accusations of racism and such.
There is a real possibility of a major separation of power issue here.
Curiouser and curiouser...

"Just mark my words on this. If Congress blocks the Dubai Ports from managing the ports terminals then the UAE government will ask our military to leave their naval and air bases there, as well as kicked out our CIA and FBI agents from their country".
Mark my words, if the UAE kicks us out, it won't be long before IRAN, just a stone's throw away, invades UAE, beheads the King, Princes and ruling family
and causes general myhem.
The UAE needs us more than we need them.
In addition, quit blaming those who oppose it, instead of those who PROPOSED it!

it's about time they do their jobs Their jobs are not to second guess a President who is trying to manage a war on terror and has far more intel than congresscritters ever do or should have. What happened to a country uniting at a time of war? Not trusting the President on issues where they are literally flying blind info wise is just dumb. There are only a few reasons why GWB would let congress endure such political heat. It now appears that one is that UAE has been giving us very valuable intel just like I thought all along. The right intel in a WOT is not important it can be everything!!

Mark Levine in bed with Chuck the Schmuck Schumer !?
Say it ain`t so. Levine joins the knee-jerkers .
Both beds resemble a zoo:
For bed has Bush, Bill Clinton, Tom Daschle, Rush Limbaugh (hedging), Tony Snow, Madeline Albright, Bob Dole, etc.
Against bed has Hastert, Frist, Hannity, Levin, Schumer, Hillary Clinton, Peter King, etc.
Whoever said 'politics makes strange bedfellows' much have been a Nostradamus, because the Ports deal sure has made strange bedfellows.

After spending the last couple of years squalling daily about Federal Spending, way to demagogue yourselves into political position where you will now be responsible for expanding the reach, cost and scope of the Federal Govt! Stupid, stupid, stupid.
If a gov't is going to be in charge of ANY operation in the U.S., I'd much rather it be our gov't. as opposed to especially, a mozlem gov't...
Actions have consequences you idiots.
And inaction sometimes has even worse consequences...You must be losing a lot of dough on this deal...
I see that most of the pro port guys are all using the highly evolved neener, neener, neener argument. Idiots huh? Let's see China owns operation of some ports? Oh there weren't Chinese flying planes into buildings in 9-11. Yes we are idiots. I am especially idiotic about handing over operation of ports to demonstrated adversaries. Hello--there is a war on those guys are the enemy.
Yep follow the money with these people--sheesh thank god this mentality didn't exist during WWII--these same people would be selling Messerschmidt control of the US aircraft industry.
To: Ooh-Ah
It doesn't matter whether or not this deal gets killed, it is irresponsible for any politician to attach it to money meant for our military. If it's a money saving effort then I'll donate a separate sheet of paper.

Thank you, Miss Cleo. Doesn't take a psychic to know that tiny little Dubai, whose main interest is making money, is not going to PO the most powerful nation on the planet.

Yup--as we see, it's the prevailing idea. I haven't heard our local most sensational TV news mention it in a while -- but the Port of Houston is running a lot more ads than usual.

Only ONE question: [Make that two]
Who is going to run the terminals? Not the Brits.....they sold out? From what I understand there isn't a US owned company that can handle the job!!
What would we do IF the UAE kicked our military out of their ports??

1st thing that comes to mind is, "Term Limits"....Other than that, you probably have to go back to a very famous man by the name of Thomas Jefferson...He said something along the line of, "The tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time by patriots"...
To: EternalVigilance
I think you're being short-sighted. We're only the "most powerful nation" right now because we have lots of allies, including many in the ME. If those ME allies decide to band together against us, especially with Pakistan and Iran having nukes (Iran will soon enough), we'll be hurting.
This vote is a slap in the face to an ally. Shame on the House.

I am SO relieved that this rediculous dubai deal dumbness was finally stopped.
Hopefully this will be the end of it, and Bush will concede that it was another blunder like Harriet Miers, and we can all go back to normal.
take care,

Not letting the UAE have port contracts because of port security is super stupid. Anyone can be compromised any time no matter who they are. All it takes is a dedicated group of terrorists with the right amount of hostages and they can compromise anyone anytime anywhere. Our country is so vulnerable that things like port contracts as of such minuscule import it should be a job for Treasury like it was set up. Our country is wide open to terrorist attacks and there are a thousand ways to do it. Those who think the ports are the only way are idiots.
