I read that Dubai itself is not oil-rich. Some of the other Arab Emirates are. Dubai is a base for international business, tourism and entertainment.

That's why I've been confident from the beginning that you're going to get your ass kicked on this one. :)

Ohh I'm SO scared!!!! Not. That's a relatively lame comment there, but being that it's you, I'll let it go.

"Didn't someone mention that companies from other Arab countries also handle port operations in several major cities, too? Including, if I'm remembering correctly, one from Saudi Arabia? (I'm sure someone will promptly correct me if I'm wrong...)

National Shipping Co. of Saudi Arabia...with a terminal in Chucky Schmucky's neighborhood (yet not a peep from him) "

USA Today, 80 percent of the terminals in the Port of Los Angeles are run by foreign firms. And the U.S. Department of Transportation says the United Kingdom, Denmark, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, China and Taiwan have interests in U.S. port terminals. The blogger Sweetness and Light observed that the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia, which is partially owned by the government of Saudi Arabia as well as Saudi individuals and establishments, operates berths in the ports of Baltimore, Newport News, Houston, New Orleans, Savannah, Wilmington, N.C., Port Newark, New Jersey, and Brooklyn, New York.

Why did the CFIUS put us all in this position?

Uh CFIUS didn't put "us" in this position.

Why don't you attack the P&O shareholders, they are the ones who accepted DPWorld's offer, but wish not to know all the facts, for it ruins your conspiracy theory.

I think they should be allowed to second guess the President and I am proud they stood up to him for a change. As I said before who needs or wants a bunch of wueses and yes men?

They have approved and signed every single thing he shoved under their noses without question, it's about time they
do THEIR jobs!

I think it's a mistake, too. MSMNBC Brian Williams said that the Dems said over 70% of their constituents were against the "selling of the ports" to Dubai because of the "port security" question. "Port Security" was the big graphic while he was saying this.

Obviously, IF (big IF) the "constituents" believe this, it's because they only read the headlines and still think we're "selling our ports" to Arabs.

Personally, I don't see how the US can stop a British company from being sold to any other company.

"Selling ports to a country who recognized the Taliban is also stupid."

No, what's stupid is believing that the ports have been sold. Please read up on this before you comment. The ports have not been sold, just some of the business operations of the ports.

----The idea that the United States of America needs Dubai more than Dubai needs the United States of America is hilariously funny.----

Amazing, how many Freepers have decided in the last month that Dubai is the greatest, most trustworthy bastion of free-market capitalism on Earth. They're probably buying up vacation homes there as we speak. ;)

Just mark my words on this. If Congress blocks the Dubai Ports from managing the ports terminals then the UAE government will ask our military to leave their naval and air bases there, as well as kicked out our CIA and FBI agents from their country. It will be a great strategic loss of an ally and military bases in the midst of the war on terror. Also do not be surprised if Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain will have similar reaction to us in consolidation with their brethren in the UAE. Even to make it worse the Arab dominant OPEC may cut its production by 1 million barrel and the oil prices will soar.

I have not read / heard / seen any indications that would support your 'feelings' on this. If you have, please tell me.

I really think they are in no hurry to "kick us out".

The US has, led by the LSM, went off the scale on this issue. I don't think you will see the other side do the same thing. It was a business deal, nothing more.

Besides, this means Dick Cheney is going back to Halliburton and they will get the deal.

:)

I'm in full agreement with everything you've said. This has to be the most asinine thing those idiots in DC have done lately.

What this must be doing to the moral of our troops I daren't imagine. It's going to make some of them careless and end up getting killed that's for sure and it's the senile old coots in DC that will be to blame.

'Slick's'crash course training by the KGB in 1969/1970 is paying off nicely.

One of our local OKC stations (Channel 4) recently did a "rant" on this topic, and the question was, do you approve of selling US ports to the UAE. This lie is repeated in stories, articles, columns--and apparently in questions to the audiences of televisions stations.

would you prefer Muhammad-track?

personally I'd rather have an inefficient American run system that a more efficient Muslim foreigner run one.
