I don't think that explains why the hands are also enormous. They not in the center of the shot. The head is distorted? then the body's not? Then the hands are distorted again? I don't think so. This guy is a mutant!

I don't think that explains why the hands are also enormous. They not in the center of the shot. The head is distorted? then the body's not? Then the hands are distorted again? I don't think so. This guy is a mutant! With a really wide lens ( 16mm) you can get quite close subject and even slight differences in distance can cause a lot of perspective exaggeration. THe camera was held around chest level so the hands look the biggest in proportion to their original size. Forget extreme wides, hold any camera really close to the face and see how much bigger the nose looks compared to the eyes or cheeks, even though only a few inches seperate the nose from the eyes.

Its hard to tell exactly how far the photographer was from the guard. Its possible the camera was no more than 1.5 ft from the gun barrel in which case the man's elbows could be twice as far than his hands. And thats a *huge* difference.

True. His hands/head could be large to begin with, but in the picture he looks too freakish. I could be wrong too. THis picture could have been taken from a mile away and he just happens to have a pumpkin sized head !
