The influx of foreigners to New York and its suburbs and the continuing exodus of non-Hispanic whites to other parts of the country have transformed the face of metropolitan New York so profoundly that whites will constitute a minority of the region's population within a few years, demographers say.
The shift would make New York the first large metropolitan area outside the South and West in which whites do not make up a majority, according to an analysis of 2004 Census estimates by the Brookings Institution that was released yesterday.
The analysis also reveals a historic reversal: For the first time since at least the 19th century, the black population of both the city and, to a lesser extent, the region, has declined. In the five boroughs, according to the estimates, the number of blacks declined by about 30,000 since 2000, dipping below 30 percent of the overall population, as the migration of blacks to the suburbs and areas like the South outpaced immigration from the Caribbean and Africa.

Pontiac is only a short drive down M-59 for me (W. Bloomfield) and it looks predominately African-American not Hispanic.
This has been the case at the state level in California for some time. In the major metro areas this is true by an even greater margin.

Republican Cubans live or grew up in Miami. Growing up in Miami in the 1960's and 70's, the words "Democrat" and "Communist" were used as synonyms in my household.
Democrat Cubans, such as Robert Menendez, live or grew up in New Jersey. If they are actually white and not mulatto, the New Jersey Cubans are playing games with you and are gaming the Democrat system.
Stick one of your New Jersey Cubans in front of a Miami Cuban and ask them to tell the Miami Cuban what they call themselves.
Huh? Most Cuban CHRISTIANS in Miami are white. The mulattos tended to stay down in Cuba. I'm willing to bet that the Cuban Christian population is 80% white.
There is a large Cuban Jewish population, but most of them are Sephardim who came after 1959.

The percentage of Cuban Jews in the Miami Cuban population is quite small. Cuba has always had a large immigration influx straight from Spain, especially from the northern Spanish regions of Asturias and Galicia.
Castro, in fact, is only a first generation Cuban. His father was born in Galicia.
I miss Miami, and look forward to purchasing my second home in Key Biscayne. Besides, Seattle women are about as sexy as a venetian blind.
Kind of odd, however, as the Okies who went to Southern California in the 1930s and 1940s had a reputation for being very racist. When I've been in Tulsa or OK City, I've always noticed blacks, whites, Hispanics, etc., often sharing the same neighborhoods.

The Okies weren't from the cities, but from rural areas.

I live in Pontiac. In 2000 the breakdown was 39% white, 41% black, 16% Hispanic and 4% Asian.
Things have changed much in the past 5 years. There are many more Asians (a large Hmong and Chinese population and 2 new Hindu temples) and very many more Hispanics.
Also, since many of the Mexican immigrants are here illegally - they do not get counted by the census. The woman across the street from me reported to the census that she and her 3 children live in the home. What she didn't tell the census is that there are 8 Mexican day laborers also in the home. Multiply her by hundreds of others to get a true picture of the Hispanic population.

Besides, Calipornia's problems stem from the fact that the Anglos voted in generous social services without wanting to pay for them. Calipornia has been a liberal state, even when it elected Republicans.
