I was sitting here tonight listening to Mozart's Requiem and I got to thinking: what do I consider to be the best work of music ever? For my part, Mozart's work really does the trick for me when I need to be re-energized. Therefore, I believe that his Requiem is the greatest work of all time. There just isn't another work that is as powerful and passionate. When the chorus sings the final "Amen" at the end of "Lacrimosa" I get the feeling that he knew it was the last thing he would ever write. It gives me chills at times.
Other favorites are:
Handel's Messiah
The 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky
"Green Onions" - Booker T and the MGs. Never fails to bring a smile.
Thanks for the link, Rte66, I'll definitely visit that thread.
And check the little note that Rummy left for you on this thread. And my new musical tagline, partly an antidote to your Sooner s...tuff. ;-)
Puhleeeze......YES "Close to the Edge"
"The recording industry objects to music file swapping...I have another view."
I share it. I'm famous for borrowing CDs from the library, copying what I like and returning them cleaned and in better condition than when I borrowed them.
It's MY tax dollars & donations that pay for them in the first place. I'm not stealing; only borrowing a few chords here and there. ;)
Ah, common ground. Youre a Prog-rock fan I bet.
Let me guess, Days of Future Passed is your favorite. That was a result of their labels wanting a rock version of "New World Symphony", you know?
Wire - Pink Flag
Love that one.
Case closed. |
Howard Dean, the early years. ;-)
Ina gada daveda (long version)
Greatful Dead Red Rocks any second set
How about "I'm On My Way" by Frijid Pink?
Lyrics: I get my kicks on Rt. 66. Boogie on down the line.
LOL.
I'll 2nd the 9th. :)
Inna-gadda-da-vida by Iron Butterfly.
I miss Ray Thomas. I wish I could find his solo albums on CD. He wasn't all that great of a flute player, but he wrote some wonderful songs and I loved hearing him sing them.
I am indeed a progressive rock fan. I really am planning on discovering some early Genesis, though I think the first couple of albums after Peter Gabriel left the group are very good.
Pink Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond, followed closely by Comfortably Numb.
Dvorak's From the New World
Schubert's Unfinished
Beethoven's Ninth
Ozzy Osbourne's Diary of a Madman (just kidding, but it's very good)
