I was sitting here tonight listening to Mozart's Requiem and I got to thinking: what do I consider to be the best work of music ever? For my part, Mozart's work really does the trick for me when I need to be re-energized. Therefore, I believe that his Requiem is the greatest work of all time. There just isn't another work that is as powerful and passionate. When the chorus sings the final "Amen" at the end of "Lacrimosa" I get the feeling that he knew it was the last thing he would ever write. It gives me chills at times.
Other favorites are:
Handel's Messiah
The 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky
Thanks, when I was a little kid and my sisters were in their 'The world is a horrible place' phase they played that, "Billy, Don't be a Hero", and "Wildfire" all the time. All of those songs to this day depress the hell out of me.
Nice get!
One of my favorite groups from recent years is the Moody Blues. I like Alison Krauss and Union Station, and Nickel Creek as well.
There is a lot of good music out there. Unfortunately, you have to almost go looking to find good "new" music.
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.
Make me, oh make me, Lord more than I am
Make me a piece in your master game plan
Free from the earthly tempestion below
Ive got the will, Lord if youve got the toe.
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.
Take all the brothers whove gone on before
And all of the sisters whove knocked on your door
All the departed dear loved ones of mine
Stickem up front in the offensive line.
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.
Yeah, Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.
ANYTHING by Copeland.
Faure's Requiem is stunning. One of my fav's.
"I'd rather be an Aggie a mean so and so than be from any other school and rolling in dough, I'd rather be out on the highway thumbing a ride than have Miss Gretta Garbo for my blushing bride.
I'm true to the colors of Maroon and White whether we win or lose or are in the wrong or right and if we lose old pal you will hear me say let's go out to Ed's and drink our cares away, I'd rather be an Aggie no shirt or no tie, I guess I'll be an Aggie til the day that I die!
Musical music: Brigadoon. No one ever performs Brigadoon anymore and the music is beautiful.
Frank Zappa "Hot Rats";15 October, 1969; "Willie the Pimp"
Check out Eric Whitacre. New composer. Check out "A Boy and a Girl"
I heard the St. Olaf choir sing this and you could hear a pin drop.

Pink Floyd: Dark Side Of The Moon, Animals, Wish You Were Here, The Wall, Meddle.
Amazing Grace, How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now I'm found.
Was blind, but now I see.
Beethoven's Ninth
Are you my son? :)
That's exactly what his answer would be!
I think the sentiment expressed in the song is beautiful. I think the song itself is, musically-speaking,...well,...crap. ;-)
Here are a few diverse selections for you:
"From the Beginnning" - Emerson Lake & Palmer (Trilogy)
"Ah Via Musicom" - Eric Johnson (Album of same name)
"Comfortably Numb" - Dar Williams (Remake of the old Pink Floyd song)
"A Mighty Fortress Is Our God"
If you can propose that, I can run Numa Numa up the flagpole.
Has its own FR thread, plus Wikipedia article 1, plus Wikipedia article 2.
Man, those Looney Tune folks were absolute MASTERS, were they not? :)
