Vice President Dick Cheney is expected to retire within a year.
Senior GOP sources envision the retirement of Mr. Cheney in 2007, months after the congressional elections. The sources said Mr. Cheney would be persuaded to step down as he becomes an increasing political liability to President Bush.
The sources reported a growing rift between the president and vice president as well as their staffs. They cited Mr. Cheney's failure to immediately tell the president of the accidental shooting of the vice president's hunting colleague earlier this month. The White House didn't learn of the incident until 18 hours later.

But by just being a woman and a member of a minority, the MSM would definitely be in a quandary as to how, exactly, to respond to any position Condi held, without being seen as hypocrites and one sided as they usually are.
No it wouldn't. They will still attack Condi mercilessly. Remember her confirmation hearings last year and Barbara Boxer's jihad against Condi? The media didnt care about her background or her minority status. They view her as another 'neocon' to be destroyed...Condi is not the magic bullet that many seek.
.....and she withstood even the most vile attacks from Boxer, et al. But during a presidential campaign, they won't be able to attack her without alienating huge sections of their base. The would be seen as the Plantation Slave Master Simon Legree with bull whips and dogs going after a "runaway".........
No. The Prez submits a replacement name to congress. Geeze, study your government a little bit.
Exactly IMHO VP would seem like a demotion
I take this with a wheelbarrow full of salt.
"Spiro Agnew
I said short of death or coming indictment. Agnew didn't exactly leave voluntarily."
Sorry, my friend. He did leave in the face of coming indictment for bribery and tax evasion.
He did not leave because he wanted to.
Cheney has stepped down as many times as Bin laden has been killed.
too true
I am so tired of this useless rumor spread by two camps.
1) Democrats/Liberals that want a threat removed since they still dream of impeachment and replacing Cheney with Bush isn't want they want to happen.
2) Weak kneed spineless Reps/Conservatives that have no idea how this Government works, think they are smarter than they are, and don't trust the '08 election can be won without sticking in a new face in the VP slot for less than two years in a blatant polical ploy that would alienate more than it would attract.
Mark it---
Cheney leaves office in '09
Rummy leaves office in '09
G.W.B. will leave office in '09
This is reality.
Wrong, they will most certainly attack her in the same way they attack Michael Steele, Colin Powell, Kent Blackwell and Clarence Thomas, they will argue that she really isnt Black, yada yada yada. By the time they spin it, they will have Hillary coming from further down than Condi ever was. WE know that is a lie, but since when has that stopped them.
Hillary's idiots will say that she is able to act independently, that Condi has never broken with the admin (forget that that's not her job.) Hillary will whip out some shitey line in a debate, in which she says,
"being First Lady means you are there when the tough decisions are made, being a President is not a place for on the job training." I can just hear her brittle voice saying it...
I am not AGAINST a Condi Candidacy, I am just against the tidal wave of wishful thinking who think that just by putting her on the ticket means they wont attack.
By the time that all is said and done, they will have Condi owning the war in Iraq.
And how many times have we heard this rumor??
They sure don't know much about Cheney and they haven't learned a thing in the last few years about his character and resolve.
Given Dick's past health history and his role in the Valerie Plame scandal, I'd hate to be on Cheney's end of a bet regarding either of these factors.
That would still leave John C. Calhoun standing alone, probably just how he'd like it.
As many times as we've heard of Zarqawi's reported death. LOL
Someone needs to start tallying how often each occurs, put it up on Tradesports as a running bet as to which will rumor will ultimately be broached more.
More likely a front runner for 2008 would emerge in DC's replacement.
He will return:

More likely than that, DC's replacement would not be regarded as a leading contender for the 2008 R nomination. If my highest priority were to secure the top '08 R slot, I would do everything in my power to dissasociate myself from W's failures. Being W's Veep would be the worst possible move for an R with future political ambitions.
We coulda made alot of money!!
