Vice President Dick Cheney is expected to retire within a year.
Senior GOP sources envision the retirement of Mr. Cheney in 2007, months after the congressional elections. The sources said Mr. Cheney would be persuaded to step down as he becomes an increasing political liability to President Bush.
The sources reported a growing rift between the president and vice president as well as their staffs. They cited Mr. Cheney's failure to immediately tell the president of the accidental shooting of the vice president's hunting colleague earlier this month. The White House didn't learn of the incident until 18 hours later.

Since Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert is # 2 in the line of presidential succession, doesn't he automatically move up to V.P.? Nope. Al Haig assumes the VP slot automatically. It's written down somewhere.

This is creating news where none exists for the 24hr news cycle Virtually word for word what the VP often says.

I know, and I didn't get the memo whether this is to set up Rudy, Frist, mcCain or Condi. How are we supposed to know what to say if they don't get us the memo in time. Just another sign of the chaos and incompetence inside the WH. I say we just impeach the SOB right now!

Completely agree. I wouldn't vote for her simply because she has no qualifications to be president. Plus she's a globalist.
If it comes down to McCain or Giuliani (I hope not), I have no clue what I'll do. I've never sat out an election before.

I dont buy this story for one second.
It reminds me of all the stories of how Karl Rove would leave the white house.

bull! How can you compare Condi to Cheney,Cheney is far the superior. I wasn't comparing her to anyone. The premise was IF Cheney was to retire..............

Yes, she is getting ALL the experience she needs as SecState. I can't think of a better OJT for a future POTUS........

I said short of death or coming indictment. Agnew didn't exactly leave voluntarily.

Almost any GOP nominee could nuke Shrillary. Don't bet on it. The MSM's fawning obesiance to her and the Donk's genuflecting to anything Klintroon's want is a formidable obstacle for any candidate. Just ask Rick Lazio. In the next election, only another woman could stand toe to toe to the haradan hitlery........

What makes you think Condi would negate that? Condi doesn't prevent that same fawning.
To: teddyballgame
I have believed for a long time that the VP would retire in order to give his replacement an opportunity to have an "incumbent" status on the ticket in 2008.

But by just being a woman and a member of a minority, the MSM would definitely be in a quandary as to how, exactly, to respond to any position Condi held, without being seen as hypocrites and one sided as they usually are.The conundrum of their reporting attack style versus their supposed "fair and balanced" reporting would be a lovely thing to watch...........

He's retiring *again*? Is this about Cheney or Roger Clemens?
My money is on Cheney serving as VP until January 20, 2009.
