President Bush called reporters at about 2.30 ET aboard Air Force One to issue a very strong defense of port deal... MORE... He said he would veto any legislation to hold up deal and warned the United States was sending 'mixed signals' by going after a company from the Middle East when nothing was said when a British company was in charge... Lawmakers, he said, must 'step up and explain why a Middle Eastern company is held to a different standard.' Bush was very forceful when he delivered the statement... 'I don't view it as a political fight,' Bush said.... DEVELOPING...
The point is that there are no people who are not from the Middle East who fly planes into office towers.
(....When Bush says he doesn't play politics he means exactly that. I can only respect him for it.)
I respect president Bush. I do. It's the emotions of the country - and how the dims will use these feelings to their own advantage, that I fear...
Hmmmm. Perhaps because the Middle East is the only region that will recall ambassadors over a cartoon and will engage in deadly riots at the drop of a hat. Perhaps because people from the Middle East have shown a penchant for blowing things up.

"The President has a good point. The British managed our ports with no problems and all of sudden Washington has a problem with a company based in Dubai?"
Not just a company based in Dubai, but a state company from Dubai.

__________
AND they seem to have the same sentiments as the rioters all
over the world. "Westernized" UAE, my foot.

The cartoons have prompted boycotts of Danish goods throughout the Muslim world. In Dubai, United Arab Emirates, travel agents said travelers were not booking flights to Denmark or Norway.
Also in UAE, a university professor was fired after distributing copies of the cartoons to her students. The nation's minister of education, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak al Nahan, said he ordered Clauda Keepoz's dismissal because "her behavior has nothing to do with the freedom of expression."

Protests against blasphemous cartoons mounts in Islamic nations
Jan. 31,2006
[snip] Burnt flags, political condemnation, and appeals for a boycott are involving even traditionally moderate Islamic nations, like Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. The Arab League and Organizations from the Islamic who announced their intention to appeal to the United Nations for a resolution blocking all forms of attacks against religious faiths.
But the wave of protest continues. Its cultural terrorism, not freedom of expression intoned Mohammad al-Dhaheri, Minister for Justice and Islamic affairs of the United Arab Emirates.

In an editorial, the Khaleej Times of the United Arab Emirates expressed dismay that the Danish government has not formally apologized for the episode.
The prime minister continues to defend the insensitive newspaper in the name of media freedom. All freedom including that of the media comes with responsibility. Mocking peoples deeply held religious beliefs and sentiments is no media freedom. Its sheer and unpardonable callousness.

Branches of French hypermarket Carrefour in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have also stopped selling Danish goods. "Danish products have been removed from all (UAE) branches of Carrefour," one official said.

IMHO the most obvious question is: Isn't there ANY American Companies capable of handling the management of our ports. For Christ's sake when did we become a third world nation..............Oh never mind...I know the answer.
"'I don't view it as a political fight,' Bush said...."
If you think, you would.
It is a given that in this countries nothing takes place without the approval of those at the top, they are to be held accountable and will be held accountable.
It was also one of the first countries to allow us to operate from its airfields against Afghanistan and Iraq. Our NATO ally to the north of Iraq (Turkey) wasn't nearly so cooperative.
"- The UAE has been a key transfer point for illegal shipments of nuclear components to Iran, North Korea and Lybia."
So has Europe.
"- According to the FBI, money was transferred to the 9/11 hijackers through the UAE banking system. "
As well as Swiss, German and US accounts. Maybe we should stop trading with Switzerland.
"- Two of the 9/11 hijackers were from the UAE (Fayez Banihammad and Marwan al-Shehhi) "
And Timothy McVeigh was from Oklahoma.
"- After 9/11, the Treasury Department reported that the UAE was not cooperating in efforts to track down Osama Bin Ladens bank accounts."
But they also reported that they were.
"Today Bush has single handedly put an end to it."
Good. I couldn't stomach a third Bush in the White House. The first two have proven to be grave disapointments. I don't need another out of touch, elitist RINO running the country.
People forget we had our own American Terrorist in Oklahoma City a few years ago. I expect there are more of his ilk amongst us now. People seem to be looking for a reason to be angy.
Until the day comes when the British empire send bombers, nuke subs or invading troops to the US I would trust them as brothers.
Lets imagine an alternate history world where oil never developed in the mas quantities we have now, where when we went from coal to steam to electric vehicles we went on to use hydrogen, propane fuels instead with possibly an era of ethanol based fuels.
The middle east not having any sufficient amount of oil never became a ultra rich nation, never felt the presence of outside interest because of the black treasure beneath its sands, never built up a resentment and hatred filled Islamic image but instead stayed in their own country practicing whatever type of muslim laws there and not having half the planet Islamic followers.
Now IF we lived in a world like that from a show scripted for Sliders I would have no problems allowing the Arabs to have that influence if they had a solid reputation of honesty similar to Swiss bankers.
But I live in the world of nere and now and unless I am a complete idiot the only reason I would trust the Swiss with my banking is that they have never attacked me, I even allow them to guard the Pope.
Maybe we should have Arabians guarding the Vatican instead?
Why hold them to a different standard?
Because Dubai is a money laundering, drug smuggling, 9/11 hijacker supplying nation.
That's why.
They signed an agreement prepared and approved by our government. Is that fact lost on you?
"
It's not a legitimate company - it is wholly owned by a foreign government. It would be one thing to have a German company managing our ports, and something entirely different to let the German government do it."
Thank you!
