ALARM - The Philippines: an explosion shakes the presidential palate
MANILA - a strong explosion of unspecified origin shook Monday the palate of the presidency from the Philippines in Manila, indicated witnesses.
Chili dogs for dinner, maybe?
That's correct....it was in the early 90's..
I'm an old man with a long memory..and a LOT of experience.
I haven't forgotten a single incident where I've had an close or semi-close encounter with death.
I am NOT down on the Philippines.
I am DOWN on the misuse of our military to serve as diggers in the Philippine mudslide, diggers in the Pakistan earthquake, and the insulted/maligned rescuers for the Muslim tsunami victims, etc, etc....
Our military is to project force to destroy the enemy in defense of America... There are other "organizations" whose purpose is to provide aid in events of this nature.
Semper Fi
So sorry....you missed the award by 32 seconds!
Is that supposed to be like a Polish joke--implying that Christians and Jews are too dumn to pull off an effective attack? Welcome to Free Republic, but such religious bigotry is not welcome here unless directed at Muslims.

Let me guess those damn Aminsh AGAIN LOL!
I have two neighbors who are from the Philippines and they said the same thing. I am just paraphrasing what they've told me...That without an education, Filipinas are looking for a way out of the island because conditions are so bad there. The rich are rich and the poor are very poor. An average retired American would be terribly rich in that country and could have several "house servants" to take care of their all needs. The two women plan to stay here until they accumalate some money and go back to retire there in a nice lifestyle with servants.
I know there are many educated Filipinas and Filipinos - so this may not hold true for them; but, they were talking about the poor ones. Whenever there is news about the Philippines, I run the stories by them and I've come to know them and they tell me many stories like this about what's really going on.
It can cost $2000 in land title processing fees to transfer a 10-acre property or a single house, for instance.
Mortgages are difficult to get for long terms, usually the max. term is 10 years, more typical is 4 years to pay with no interest, on the entire balance of the loan.
What area do you live in? I hope to move there when I retire.
You might want to check out the area northwest of Olongapo, Zambales Provence. This coastal region is very beautiful and filled with many kind people. Especially up in the small town of Bolinao. Very similar to California coast, lots of beaches with a small plain that runs up to big mountains. Found many filipino servemen retired there.
No, it was straight sarcasm to lull the unwitting. ;)
I was thinking of Tagaytay. I was there in 2004. I did not want to come back. Cebu would be nice, but I still want to go ice skating and Manila has the only ice rink in the Philippines.
Anything south of Cebu & Bohol is moro-land as is Mindoro. There are remnants of the Huks in the northern Luzons mountain regions. Living in Manila is costly and congested. Palawan is a beautiful island although remote. This is a place where you can live like a king for peanuts.
Yes it is, but Tagaytay is not that close, although I could see Manila in the distance from the Palace in the Sky, the highest point in Tagaytay. In 2003, I traveled in Eastern Mindanao. I thought it was very peaceful but the people I met told me not to go to Western Mindanao. That is where most of the problems are. Even they did not go to Western Mindanao.
As I recall, Tagaytay is on the rim of the Taal Volcano. It is an "artsy" community. Years ago, I would take my navy plane into the volcano. It is just beautiful. It has a Island in a Island on an Island in the ocean. Good place to live.
You got something against trash cans?
No, not at all! Please don't take it that way, I have nothing against trash cans.
Some of my best friends are trash cans.
Good. The only religious bigotry allowed here is against Muslims, so if you'd like to contribute, I'd hope you'd have a nice knee-jerk or broad-brush statement to fling out into the forum. ;-)
Your handle is a nice touch, though...
Ah, but you don't really believe that Mohammedanism is a 'religion', do you!
Do you know the simple, straight forward connotation of my FReeper handle?
