Sandi Dubowski, who won the Teddy gay and lesbian award in 2001 for his controversial doc "Trembling Before G-d," may cause an even bigger stir with "In the Name of Allah," which explores the struggles of homosexual Muslims.
Gay Indian Muslim helmer Parvez Sharma is directing the pic, which looks at gay, lesbian, and transgender Muslims across the Muslim and Western worlds.
"The world right now needs to understand Islam, and these are the most unlikely storytellers of Islam," Dubowski said, who is producing 'Allah.'

What's a helmer?
I believe it translates from Arabic as "clymer" but I could be wrong. ;-)

A note of irony-
Lets contrast this film with a bunch of cartoons that are bordering on the truth.

How about "behind the sand dune"? These people are messed up because they don't have an Islamic Playboy laying around. Surely there are nice women over there!

And yet it will sell millions in Arab countries on DVD through TheREALAmazon.com...and all over the Middle East, women will come home and find their husbands shutting off the DVD player quickly and looking guilty and saying "What, what? I was just watching some surveillance tapes!"

that... would be... trippy.
imagine... the thtone columnth thymbolizing Thatan would be given, ah, "helmetth" for the day, and festives would hurl, ah, water at them... and the kaaba would shed its usual drab cothtume for rainbow drapery... and only lethbians would orally gratify the black thtone it its thilver, um, canoe... whereas a new, ah, horn would be added to the oppothite corner upon which the fabulouth male thelebrants will lavish their adorations...
somebody stop me.
puh-lease.

Even if it makes millions it'll be a bomb at the box office.

It's no different than the Danish cartoonists. Except this guy is actually muslim.
Challenging radical islam, even from the too friendly with men and goats perspective in film and the media, is a good thing.
It's not exactly the kind of film I'd ever want to watch, but until this militant branch of Islam learns that criticism is part of the modern world and they learn to combat it with words, not jihads, I want more of this stuff.
So, kudos to the bravery of the brokeback goatherder filmmaker.
