Happy Valentines Day -
I heard our national symbol The American Bald Eagle is to be soaring again.
Is this a great omen?
Yes!
When does hunting season begin ????
I hear they are pretty tasty too!
We have great numbers of these birds in Canada, especially out west. It's good to hear this beautiful animal is doing so well.
How do they taste?
It is!
In the summer, I spend some time along the river bluffs of the Mississippi River just south of the Twin Cities.
There is nothing more relaxing and beautiful to watch a bald eagle circle back and forth, riding the air currents.
Saw three Bald Eagles in Yellowstone last month. Very magestic birds.
"How do they taste?"
Half way between a spotted owl and a California condor.
There's a pair that's taken to wintering close by. They're particularly enchanting when they just stand there ripping parts of dead fish out of the ice.
We've got a mating pair all the way down here in Pascagoula, Ms. I watched one try to pluck a duck out of the river. The duck dove deep, very deep!
I always list President John Adams as one of the three people in history I would like to meet.
Ben Franklin was the most powerful man of his time and wanted the Turkey (Austrian grouse) as our national symbol however John Adams wanted the Eagle and took on Franklin and I am glad, Adams won.
Well not as good as spotted owls and the farting flycatchers(I could have the name wrong here it's one of the green goofies latest poster children).
I think they are but better than crow however.
Roger that. I used to go canoeing on the Big Blue river in southern Indiana. There is an eagle preserve in the Ky Danial Boone National Forrest and I used to see them flying over all the time. With their wings spread they are much bigger than one would imagine and magestic is a very apt descrition of what they look like when flying overhead.
In winter eagles are easy to spot along the Lackawaxen River in Pike County, PA. It isn't unusual to see 30-40 of them along about a 10 mile stretch of the river. A couple weeks ago I saw 7 bald eagles in just one tree.
This will soon be the "mystery meat" to be used in the next Iron Chef competition.
Bald Eagle soup
Bald Eagle soufflet
Bald Eagle Quesadillas
Bald Eagle truffles
Please!
Don't tell Vice President Cheney!
LOL
Q......How many Bald Eagles does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A......2
I've seen dozens along the Mississippi between Iowa and Illinois. They nest along lock & dam #15 and every year Rock Island hosts Bald Eagle Days for a weekend.
Does Harry Whittington still have his hair?
