Iran won't back down

TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran's president threatened to revise his policy of working within international atomic frameworks, as diplomats in Europe said the UN nuclear watchdog agency had stripped most of its surveillance equipment from Iranian nuclear sites.

The diplomats, who demanded anonymity in exchange for revealing the confidential developments, said the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency had been left with only the most basic means to monitor Iran's nuclear activities.

In a speech before tens of thousands massed in Tehran's Azadi Square to mark the 27th anniversary of the revolution that brought a Muslim theocracy to power, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad focused on the building crisis surrounding Iran's disputed nuclear program.

"The nuclear policy of the Islamic Republic so far has been peaceful. Until now, we have worked inside the agency (IAEA) and the NPT (Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty) regulations," he said.

"If we see you want to violate the right of the Iranian people by using those regulations (against us), you should know that the Iranian people will revise its policies. You should do nothing that will lead to such a revision in our policy."

The crowd in the square chanted: "We would fight, we would die but we will not accept lowliness!" -- referring to Iran's refusal to give in to outside pressure.

The respect I was referring to is the 'view' by foreigners (fed by CNN, etc) that the US,DENMARK,BRITIAN, etc. must be allowed to have their bloody noses up everyone's arse on the nuclear materials.

Do we have cameras in Russia? no.

Why not?

That is the 'respect' sought. Whether deserved is another question.

I wasn't trying to 'inform' you, Allegra.

I picked your post to enter the conversation and wanted to interject a tangent. What if the power of religion and power of state have a settling out as terrorists and fanatics removed?

What if....?

Everyone seems to be so "BLOW IRAN TO HELL" when we really know that is not a solution.

I want people to think more, instead of just react to emotion. Tooooooo much of that on the other side to go imitating them.

IIRC, you are stationed in the ME, and I respect and admire your devotion and courage, and knowledge.

Every time I see your screename I pray for your safety.

I see what you're saying and in fact, I get quite irritated with some of the knee-jerk, drama queen reactions to things I see on here.

Everyone seems to be so "BLOW IRAN TO HELL" when we really know that is not a solution.

I'm not in favor of this either (proximity notwithstanding) and get so annoyed at the armchair generals around here who seem to think nuking things or dropping daisycutters on them are the only ways to resolve them. I've tangled with quite a few FReepers who get their noses out of joint when I call them on this.

But, I can see a scenario where we might have to take those sites out. Might. I believe that ball is in Iran's court right now.

Thank you for your kind words and your prayers. They are appreciated more than you know.

The genuine answer is a combination of clandestine strikes on Iran's facilities, and provoking a revolution. Iran, for all its oil wealth, is squandering its riches - its economy is terrible. Furthermore, the youth of Iran are thoroughly disaffected by the enthusiasms of their elders. This is an opportunity to be exploited.

Regards, Ivan

The people of Iran want to live, and want to use nuclear power, instead of oil.

Riddle me this, Batman.

Why would a country AWASH in oil want/need nuclear power?

We *KNOW* why their leaders are supporting it...

Darn, I thought that was a good thing. Maybe we're just not listening to what they are saying.

Umm, try again. Iran is a theocratic dictatorship of the sort that DU says Bush is trying to turn the US into.

So the people don't have any voice.

Try listening to what the moonbat LEADERS (the ones with the power) are saying.

Cheers!

I know what the current leaders of Iran want to do with the nuclear fuel and privacy. Those leaders are fanatics and hell-bent on producing the 12th imam.

This movement may wither out. Those leaders could be targets of assassins any time.

Now.

Why wouldn't a country AWASH in oil, use a cleaner source of fuel for itself, avoiding problems with atmospheric pollution and avoiding digging up the entire country, and filling it with oil wells?

We must watch closely the leaders, while respecting the wants of the nation. I have a feeling that the public, the nation, will overcome it's leaders soon.

If not, pretend you are the President and justify a pre-emptive attack right now.

Is that the only choice we have?

The new head of Iraq will have a large influence on Iran as well. Patience, my friend, patience.

So far the leader of Iran sounds little different than the potential leaders of the US (Dean,Howard, Clinton,Kerry), as far as making CRAZY STATEMENTS.

Fair 'nuff, you didn't go into moonbat mode as I feared, and you remain courteous in your reply.

The main reason I am not so sanguine is that I'm not aware of ANY reasonable leader of a major Middle Eastern country. At least, any that remained unassassinated by fanatics.

Cheers!

The Iranian people want to be free but cannot overthrow the insane leadership without our help. The mullahs who lead are the biggest terrorist supports in the world and Ahmedinejad is insane. The kind of guy who WOULD use a nuclear weapon and not care about retaliaton.
