The Governor's School of North Carolina describes itself as "program for intellectually gifted high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses." But one North Carolina couple is suffering some after effects of their son's involvement in the program. Jim and Beverly Burrows say after their son attended a Governor's School seminar called "The New Gay Teenager," he began telling them he was unsure of his "sexual orientation."
The parents believe the seminar was intentionally scheduled as the last optional one before classes ended in order to leave a strong, lasting impression on the students and bypass any parental notification about the seminar.
Jim Burrows says he noticed a big difference in his otherwise normal son upon his return from the school.
"He [said he] was thinking now that he perhaps was gay -- and of course I was floored by this [pronouncement] and was, like, 'where did this come from?' This kind of came out of left field," the dad says. After questioning his son for an extended period, Burrows says he discovered the source. "I found out that this was as a result of this seminar."
According to Burrows, his son was instructed by two openly homosexual staff members of the Governor's School to question his sexuality as well as Bible passages that condemn homosexuality. And the students were also encouraged by instructors to start a Gay Straight Alliance club at their schools, he says.
The North Carolina dad explains that his son's subsequent struggle with homosexuality has turned his family upside down. "As far as our family is concerned, the damage has already been done," he laments. "There's no way that we can go back and undo what has been done."
Still, Mr. Burrows feels he needs to warn other parents of the homosexual indoctrination his son encountered at the Governor's School. "[I]f I can keep one other family from having to go through this, then all this trouble has been worthwhile," he says.
How old were your kids when you gave them the "gross-out" treatment?
I agree that some things can probably effect children's sexual preference. I believe a majority of gays are born that way, but I also think that children who are abused sexually often become gay or at least very confused.
I'll also agree that there are acceptions to the instances I stated, but I live in a metropolitan area with a substantial gay population and for every masculine macho-man gay there are 20 feminine gays; and for every hot, feminine lesbian there are about 100 butch lesbians.
You underestimate the role the human mind plays on sexuality.
You offered, "I believe a majority of gays are born that way" ... no, but the vast majority are sex addicts and sex addiciton is just as devastating as other addictions. Sadly, the disease known as liberalism has chosen to champion degeneracy in many forms, thus salving the pricked souls of the degenerate in order to prevent the still small voice from being heard.
I wonder what Senator John Edwards (D-North Carolina) has to say about this...
The human mind plays a very powerful role in sexuality, but a person cannot be brain washed into being attracted to someone. If everyone walked around talking about how sexy Rosie O'Donnell was, and it was taught in schools that Rosie O'Donnell was the ideal of feminine beauty, does anybody actually believe the Victoria's Secret models would be out of work. Of course not. Attraction is not a choice. It is biological.
I apologize becuase I am not sure if you are a man or woman since I am kind of new here, but I will use an example you probably experienced with someone of the opposite sex. Were you ever very attracted to someone who wasn't attracted to you or vice versa? If you have been in such a situation you will know that there is basically nothing you or anyone else can really do to change either person's mind.
Well, this school is for those students who have been identified as potential leaders in their schools and communities. I'm sure they want these kids to be as 'sophisticated' as possible, and you are certainly not that if you are of the opinion that there is anything wrong with homosexuality.
Not cool, don't you know. /sarc
They are?!?
TURN OFF THE WILL AND GRACE PROPAGANDA! You've been indoctrinated. Perverts come in all forms!
Glad to see the straight side of this issue speaking out!
Back in the late 70s my brother's best friend had a disturbing experience. An older man had befriended the kid, who was not a big kid by any means. After the man made a pass at him and told him how "gay" he appeared, the kid practically fell apart. I don't think there was ever any contact, just discussion. This kid then dropped all contact with my brother, convinced that he, himself, was gay. My brother tried to convince his friend not to be convinced by this perv. Anyway, this was back in the late 70s when gay wasn't as chic(barf) as it is to some today. The last we heard, gratefully, was that about 10 years later, the guy had moved to Oklahoma and was happily married with a baby on the way.
Can't say for sure, but I think prisons know how to do it.

I'm with you, Harry. Sangrila has a lot to say, consistent with P.C. gay doctrine and his own deep reflections about beautiful women, and lays out "truth" as though it were beyond dispute.
It seems reasonable to me that genetics plays a role, but I do not feel enlightened by Dr. Sangrila's characterization of other opinions as "ridiculous" or his definitive revelation that "you are either gay are you aren't."
What strikes me as ridiculous is such a knowall attitude in such an ambiguous area.
That disproves my point? Those fellas don't meet my definition of masculine. If you want to argue that most gay men are not more feminine than most heterosexual men then you are the one who espouses "Will & Grace propaganda." Don't come at me with weak crap. I said flat out taxes shouldn't be paying for these programs. And if you knew me, you would know that I am highly critical of the disproportionate amount of attention the media pays to the gay community.
The point I actually made, which is rooted in rational thought, is that this school did not make this kid gay. I'm sorry I'm not naive enough to believe some guy who is trying to rationalize why his son is gay. I can assure you without being there that there were not too many heterosexual children attending the voluntary "New Gay Teenager" seminar unless they ooze liberalism at an etraordinarily young age, or just went for a good laugh like most high school kids would have done. I went to a pretty tough public school on the east coast with a rather liberal faculty which included gays. All I remember is the kids making fun of them and cussing them out.
I'll admit I was wrong for calling the other poster's claim ridiculous. I am not a scientist and don't know why people are gay. I was just offering my opinion. The only thing I said that is consistent with what the gays claim is that it seems to be genetic. You seemed to agree that it seemed like a distinct possibility. Attacking me as dogmatic on this thread is laughable and demonstrates your hypocrisy becuase everyone else on this thread arguing the opposite opinion has been far more one-sided than me. I don't approve of the gay agenda. I am against gay marriage. I am just not willing to believe that a seminar made a kid gay. Especially when it was an elective that he signed up for called "The Modern Gay Teen." Sounds like something a modern gay teen would sign up for. You think John Wayne would have been gay if he had taken that seminar as a kid? It sounds far-fetched. Not everyone who thinks being gay is biological has an agenda. It is an opinion.
"Look at prisons where an artificial environment causes otherwise straght prisoners to choose to engage in homsexual behavior until they leave prison."
And, some continue in the homosexual lifestyle after leaving prison. It's also said that "crack cocaine will turn a cowbow into a queer".
Excuse the crude usage of the word "queer" but that's how the saying goes. And, there is much truth there.
And the students were also encouraged by instructors to start a Gay Straight Alliance club at their schools, he says.

Gay, or just asexual? Some boys take longer than others to become interested in girls/women. Put such a boy in the presence of "caring" mentors who explain that the reason he's not attracted to women is probably that he's gay, but there's nothing wrong with that, and it's quite possible they could convince him.
Do you believe that some boys make this "choice" before they even start school? Why would a teenaged boy make a "choice" that's going to cause him to be ridiculed and shunned by most of his peers?
And why would a normal, heterosexual kid choose to attend an optional seminar on homosexuality when there were other options he could have chosen?
Interesting editorial in today's New York Times asks the question, "if anyone reading this believes that gay men can actually become ex-gay men, I have just one question for you: Would you want your daughter to marry one?"
Food for thought....
