US sides with Muslims in cartoon dispute

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Washington on Friday condemned caricatures in European newspapers of Islam's Prophet Mohammad, siding with Muslims who are outraged that the publications put press freedom over respect for religion.

"These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims," State Department spokesman Kurtis Cooper said in answer to a question.

"We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable."

You know we're in trouble when you can't sell a Muhammad on burnt toast on ebay.

No, that's precisely the point. Muslims can avoid any honest examination or appraisal of their "prophet" because the Koran tells them they must. Well, isn't that just so convenient for Islam.

It was not the point I was trying to make, and stick too. I think that publishing those pictures WAS offensive, I think the muslims have a right to be angry, and even boycott. I think it is appropriate to call the media out when it does things like this. Like I said, what would we have said if something similar were done to an image of Christ? That it was offensive and shouldn't have been published, like the cartoon of the crippled soldier. I think a boycott is appropriate.

Now having said that, the actual response by the muslims EXPOSES them for the nutbags that they are, and as someone else said, it proves the cartoon right.

I can't understand why Bush doesn't revamp the State Department. That place has been a hot bed of anti American liberals forever.

He can't - Presidents and administrations come and go, but bureaucracies last forever.

Frankly, I could give a flying pig fart what the jihadis felt about anything.

What most of us do care about, however, is how the jihadis (and virtually all of Islam based upon its noteworthy silence) respond.

Depiction of Christ in urine: we get ticked off and threaten boycotts.

Drawing of the Pedophile (spit be upon him) in any form or manner: beheadings, mass violence, calls for new 9/11's, declarations of war, etc.

The contrast between the West and the great cult is priceless.

Good grief. What do you folks want the State Department to say as the official diplomatic arm of the US government? Get a grip on the outrage for the State Department and let's put it where it belongs.

PALESTINIANS FINALLY RUN OUT OF ROCKS

WEST BANK — Palestinian stone throwers disclosed for the first time Friday, that due to a gross miscalculation of their arsenal, they had finally run out of rocks and would be forced to come up with more inventive ways of continuing their Intifada on the Jewish state of Israel.

“I reached down to grab a rock this morning and all I got was a handful of sand,” said one Palestinian militant who asked to remain anonymous. “I tried throwing it but it just blew back in my face. Man, It really stung my eyes!”

Militant groups were quick to cast blame for the depletion of their arsenal on a group of teenage “stone hogs” who exhausted the supply by throwing indiscriminately at passing cars, various neighborhood bullies and the occasional stray dog.

Others accused a local housewife of wasting the rocks by building “a cute little gravel path” leading up to a backyard bird feeder.

“The important thing is we find an another resource as quickly as possible, said Palestinian militant leader, Achmed Ashanni. “Meanwhile, we’re alternating between spitting on the Israelis and throwing feces at them. We really need to find some alternatives quick."

Leaders of two radical groups, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, not wanting show signs of military unreadiness, decided to immediately unleash a precious cargo of snack-sized, tapioca pudding containers stolen from an Israeli middle school cafeteria.

According to reports, the pudding has great hangtime and can be thrown almost as far as rocks. Plus, it’s really impressive when it explodes all over enemy clothing.

I do have to admit, It really kills me to throw the tapioca Snack Packs," Ashanni said.

Personally, I like to see the euroweenies up against this without our help. Who do you think has a higher approval rating on the continent of euroweenie: Bush or Bin Laden. I don't know the answer, but I don't think it's Bush.

So let the euroweenies struggle for awhile. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Maybe at the end of all this, they will actually be a worthy partner of the United States of America. I doubt it. But you never know. In any event, let's see what they can do without us.

I don't think it puts them in a quandry at all. They have no problem with censoring these cartoons.

I'm beginning more and more to think the whole issue is fabricated.

No one has shown me where this whole business is in the Koran.

How about asking that question to the "artist" that put a crucifix in a jar of urine, or the "artist" that did a portrait of the Virgin Mary with elephant dung?
I agree. I agree, I agree, I agree. And any public official who spent public funds on that garbage should have been fired on the spot.
