Personally, I don't think anyone should be permitted to vote in the election unless their name is on the voter rolls when they show up at the voting booth or when they request an absentee ballot.

Furthermore, no one knows where the voters are since the cemeteries flooded and washed away the coffins. Also Nagin is a resident of Dallas. The rest of NO folks are scattered all over the country. Oh, I forgot. We are talking about LA. They don't need no stinkin voters for an election.

The Landrieus are the white overlords of the black plantation that is NO.
What 'black plantation'... They have all been shattered across the country.

Nagin bought a home in Dallas and moved his family before Katrina hit.

That had to be non-consensual sex. The poddle should bring charges against Nagin for "littering".

"In any case Landrieu will be a much better option than Nagin and will be able to help the city get back up its feet as opposed to keeping in down."
My thinking as well. Nagin, by word and deed, is seen by many as a buffoon. That makes him easy to dismiss. Mitch at least seems serious and businesslike in his demeanor. People are getting desperate and they want a take charge person running the city.

As far as I can tell the Governor never initiated the State's emergency plan before Katrina hit. Doesn't Landrieu carry some of that baggage?

"George Voinovich did the same thing in Ohio in the late '70s when he was elected Lieutenant-Governor with Jim Rhodes and quickly jumped in to run for Mayor of Cleveland. It ended up bolstering his chances of becoming Governor a dozen years later."
Yeah, but that was because Voinovich was a Republican and Cleveland was the Democrat's biggest stronghold in Ohio. If, say, Bobby Jindal could get elected Mayor of New Orleans, it would almost certainly catapault him to the governorship (although I don't think he'll need much help anymore; he should win handily in 2007), since a Republican who carries NO is unbeatable in a statewide election. I think Mitch Landrieu should just run for governor and hope for a run-off.

I predict his Platform will be to...
Rebuild the Projects
Double Welfare Benefits
Extend Welfare Benefits to third cousins living in Africa that you collect benefits for or a honorary NOPD paycheck (or both if you promise to quit any job you have and return to New Orleans and promise to go back on Welfare and have MANY Children who will also be on Welfare, not showing up for work is always a plus)
Free Deep Pile Carpet and Big screen TV's (no looting required)
Improved Government response to your needs including an 8:00 PM wakeup call on your Government supplied computer and free cable that wakeup will include pre-approved Government handouts (your FEMA card will be credited regularly)
Of course all Medical, Dental and any current or future Drug dependency needs will be fully funded (WE OWE You!)
Love and kisses

You forgot the most important Landrieu platform... full voting rights for the dead and shuttle service for the corpses from the tomb to the voting booth.

Why should the inability to breath or lack of transportation from the Grave be a reason to keep you from Voting? It's for the CHILDREN! 98.6 degrees body temp is too Divisive!

"Can Jindal beat John Breaux?"
Nope. If Breaux runs Jindal would be smart to stay where he is until Moon's baby girl comes up for reelection again.
Jindal would walk all over Blanco given her track record but Breaux is the most widely respected politician in the state and is untainted by scandal, if that's possible in this state. He'll be seen, if he runs, as a white knight riding to the rescue of his state and would pull the same North LA rural cracker vote that wouldn't vote for Jindal before.

I agree ... Breaux would be viewed as a Senior Statesman coming back to Louisiana [from Patton Boggs in D.C., the firm from which I believe he lobbies] to do good for the state when no one else can. I was always surprised that John was able to keep himself as "clean" as he seems to have done ... but, he would be seen by many as a thread of continuity with the good ol' days in Louisiana ... before the likes of Blanko came to power. Surely, no one outside of a federal facility knows where so many of "the bodies" are buried in Louisiana! LOL
